I think you are missing some teams from the NFL. You seem to only be going by super bowls instead of NFL championships which would put the packers, bears and browns on this list.

I have to ask: what is the correct method of determining NFL champions? I believe you are currently using Super Bowl winners only, but there was a NFL Championship Game from 1933-1966. Since NHL and MLB winners are being counted from the early 1900's and MBA winners are being counted from the beginning of the league, isn't it fair to use the NFL Championship Games to put the quiz on an even footing between leagues?

"Four Major Sports (U.S.)" is a little misleading, as there are a few Canadian teams (all NHL) on the list.

They should not use the NFL and AFL Championship games for the same reason they don't use the old NBA and ABA championships. The NFL as we know it did not exist then, so only counting Super Bowls makes sense. The reason they count the old NHL and MLB titles are because the league is the same today as it was back then.

The NHL and MLB are not close to being the same...the NHL was originally only six teams and the MLB was only 16 teams when the American and National Leagues merged. Notice that the vast majority of these franchises are those that were in the original leagues. I don't think AFL Championship Games or AAFL Championship Games should be used, but I think using NFL Championship Games should be put in as a compromise to even things out. There are only 3 NFL teams on the list, and arguably the most dominant team in the NFL all-time (the Packers) are excluded because they were not at a top level for the vast majority of the Super Bowl era.

meltingbridge, that's not a compromise, that's exactly what other people were saying. No one suggested the list use AFL Champs because, well, that isn't NFL. But yes, NFL Champs, dating back to the 30's should all be used. The Packers would have about 13, the Bears would have about 12, the Browns would be up there, the Giants would be up there.

Exactly, no one is saying use the AFL or AAFL, but the NFL championships should definitely be there. I'm not a Packers fan, but there Packers are arguably THE NFL team, and not being on the list (along with the Bears) just doesn't pass the smell test. Besides, the old NHL and MLB were nothing like the current leagues when you think about it. Including NFL championships is the only way that makes sense.

We still have parties in NY when the yanks win. And only idiots in Phili riot when they win. Although, they riot when they lose too. They would riot for ties as well, but they didn't know that ties occurred until very recently. Ha

it was the AAFC, not AAFL. the browns won all four of that league's championships (plus a perfect season in 1948, 24 years before the dolphins). total NFL championships should have been counted, even the ones from 1920-1932 before the NFL championship game was introduced. you'll find some mighty interesting team names from that era.

SF Giants should say New York Giants because the SF Giants have 0 World Series. LA Dodgers have 5 (1 from Brooklyn). Nobody counts the championships prior to relocation.

Doesn't matter if the Giants and Dodgers moved, those championships are part of the team's history.

Actually, scott, the histories of the franchises move with the franchise. The Dodgers have numbers retired from the Brooklyn teams; the Braves fly pennants from their Boston and Milwaukee iterations. So it is appropriate to list them. But I think the quiz should accept "Giants" but list "New York/San Francisco Giants"; accept "A's" bust list them as "Philadelphia/Oakland A's"

If you go back far enough, all four sports have an odd beginning. You can even make the case that you should count the National League champs from at least as early as 1892 because it was the sole major professional baseball league in existence until 1901 when the American League was formed. You have to pick some starting point and, with the exception of the NFL, I think the quiz does well. I would have gone back to at least 1950 with the NFL and perhaps even to just after the end of WW II.

All I'm saying is that it's ridiculous that the New York Giants, which won all 5 of the franchise's World Series, is not accepted at all and this quiz makes the SF Giants look successful when in reality they have never won.

The quiz is mistitled or misleading as is, and most comments tend to agree. It should say in the information that this is just Super Bowl, World Series, Stanley Cup, and NBA Finals championships, because that's what it is. As it is titled, this quiz is 100 percent incorrect.

Teams that have had more than one home should be recognised on here. Lakers once played in Minneapolis, A's also played in Kansas City, but never won there. I agree the table needs to say Super Bowl if that is all you are going to count. That could get sticky since the Colts and Vikings won the last two pre-merger NFL titles but lost Super Bowl. This was my first quiz to score 100% the first time I played it.

meltingbridge, the stanely cup has been awarded since the late 1800's. they didn't form the NHL until 1917-18 i believe but the stanely cup was still handed out. and also, the NHL was not originaly six. there were more than 10 teams when the league formed. they dropped to six in the early 30's and stayed there for almost 20 years, and they were the most recognized teams because they still exist today, thats why its called the original six. i am a bit of a hockey buff :)

Couldn't agree more about the NFL thing. I hate to do it, Sporcle, but I gave this game a one. When your quiz is based on pure facts, and the facts are skewed or ignored, it's not a good quiz. (With that said, I got them all, though not seeing the Packers on there- I'm a Giants fan, for the record- pissed me off.)

Ben, the premise of this quiz was most sports titles won, and I think most huge sports fans would consider the pre-1967 NFL championships to be valid titles that certainly belong on this quiz. The league did exist and thrive long before the AFL merger; it's revisionist history and a fairly arbitrary decision to ignore the happenings of the early NFL and only consider Super Bowl titles as being worthy of inclusion in this quiz.

The title of this quiz is "Most Team Championships" - the Packers have 12 championships as a team, the Bears 9, Browns 8, and Giants 7. Nothing confusing about that. The decision to ignore those championships is what is confusing.

Hey Scott, the New York FOOTBALL Giants aren't on here, and the San Francisco Giants play baseball. They're two different sports. If both teams were on here, you'd probably have to put the cities in there, so quit complaining. The franchise stays the same also, whether it's the Brooklyn Dodgers or Los Angeles Dodgers, or like if it's the Oakland Athletics or the Kansas City Athletics. It's championships per FRANCHISE. And furthermore, I agree about that NFL championships should be in this quiz. I guess I'm old fashioned and read the criteria and it said, 'Superbowl Champions'.

it is ridiculous to consider that the NFL was not a league before 1967. 1) it makes the quiz more difficult, i can think of five teams off of the top of my head that would then be included on this list. 2) the NFL has been the same continuous organization since 1920, just like the NHL since 1917, MLB since 1903, and NBA since 1940something. all four of those sports have gone through changes. 3) the NFL considers the 1958 NFL Title game as its greatest game ever, this quiz doesn't acknowledge its existence...either someone read their history book wrong or a Cowboys fan made this quiz ;-)

Lenard, the San Fran baseball team won their championships while they were the New York Giants, which is also why "football" is in the NYG football team's name.
