	Billy Martin won somewhere around 1200. He skippered for about twenty seasons but remember only half of those were full seasons due to his tendency to get pink-slipped by the Boss. Most of the guys on this list owe their records to longevity (which is a sign of a good manager, coaching well enough to keep your job)...Connie Mack managed the Athletics for fifty years.

	#1 owned the team. He managed some of the worst and best teams in history as he would build these amazing teams, then sell off all his star players.

	To Hal: Except that I don't think the A's had much of a team for the last 20 or so years that Mack was in charge. I think the team that made the World Series three years in a row from 29-31 was the last hurrah for the A's in Philadelphia. They were pretty inept for the rest of Mack's tenure, the moved to Kansas City in the early 50's if I remember correctly.

	Billy Martin won 1,253 games to put him in 32nd place all time. Alcohol cost him a better career and a spot in Cooperstown. Just behind Tanner in 26th place is Tigers skipper Jim Leyland with 1,326 wins, so this list should change the first half of this season. The next highest active manager is Dusty Baker of the Reds. He is tied for 34th with Joe Cronin with 1,236. If he avoids getting fired he might get in the top 25 in late 2010. A losingest manager quiz would be fun, but we'd see mostly the same names.

	Also, Mack was not really in charge for the last 10 years or so. I think he just sort of sat on the bench and his sons (or some other coaches) were really running the team.

	Hey Ben, the manager with 1406 wins needs an alternate spelling because his nickname is not spelled with an ie. It ends with a Y. Just a little bit of info for you, it could help some people that spell it a different way.

	I was surprised Whitey Herzog wasn't on here. He won four division titles with the Royals in a 6-year span and took them to the 1980 series, then went to the Cards and had a lot of success, including a loss in the 1985 series to his former team. He won a lot, but I guess he didn't stay in the game long enough.

	The most interesting case here is Houk - surrounded on the list by HOF members, he won four pennants his first four years - and WS the first 2, made some mediocre late 60s/early 70s Yankee teams better than they should have been, and helped build both the good early 80's Tiger teams AND late 80's Red Sox teams - but yet has never even CONSIDERED for the HOF....very odd... But a guy like Herzog who won only ONE WS gets in....with FAR less career wins...

	The one missing that surprised me was Whitey Herzog. With all the great Royals and Cardinals teams he managed in the 70's & 80's, I would've thought he'd have had more than 1200 wins.
