Would we call Barry Bonds "active?" I know technically he hasn't retired but can anyone tell me what team he plays for?

Bonds is active, he's just a free agent and hasn't signed with anyone (or rather, no one wants to sign him).

15/20. Would've got 16, but I can't spell the name of the guy with 1844 RBIs.

I guess you're considered active unless you formally retire, even if you're not on someone's roster.

Enough of these quizzes has finally taught me to spell 1844's name correctly.

i think matt is right. plus, both of the other active players on this quiz are free agents, meaning they are not on an active roster either (although they both played last year). so they have the same status as barry right now, even if it is only a technicality.

By 1844 you mean Yastrzemski.

According to ESPN, the player listed 3rd only had 1879 RBI as opposed to the 2076 listed here.

I guess ESPN doesn't take into account the 5 years #3 played in the American Association, the precursor to the National League.

I'm surprised Pete Rose isn't on this list, considering he's the all time hit leader.

I bet A-Rod is not far from making this list. Also, I am (semi)suprised that Frank Thomas isn't on here. He has been just as steady as numbers 1917 and 1835 but with even bigger years mixed in.

@Camden: I was surprised that those two guys were missing, too. Frank Thomas is the next on the list, at 1704. A-Rod is 30th, with 1606.

Heywood, you're thinking of the National Association. The American Association was in operation at the same time as the National League and they eventually merged.

Makes you realize how great Aaron was. Most RBIs. Most (steroid free) HRs. Take away his 755 home runs and he still had over 3000 hits.

agree @AllanWilliams. Also... #1 all-time in Total Bases, #1 in extra base hits, #3 all-time in hits, and #2 in at-bats. All this without cheating, not being a primadonna & facing pitchers like Koufax, Gibson, Marichal, Seaver, etc.

this quiz is terribly done...wow. wrong info, A-Rod not listed as active...Griffey and Bonds (well i guess he technically is still "active") listed as active. Griff Sr. even being on the list...huh???

I can't believe a Sporcle published quiz would be this inaccurate. Griffey is inexplicably listed twice (his actual career total is 1836), Rodriguez is not listed as an active player while Bonds is, and Rafael Palmeiro (1835) and Manny Ramirez (1827 as of the date of this comment) are missing.

And RBI was not even an official stat when Anson played. Retrosheet lists Anson with 2075 total, 1880 NL.

You should be able to just type Yaz for Yastrzemski because nobody can spell his name.

you should make it so that we can type Yaz instead of yastrziemskehnc or whatever his name is. Great quiz though!
