Could not remember Carpenter or Cooper to save my skin.

Excellent quiz! More like this, please!

Gemini and Apollo quiz is not a bad idea! And by the way, did anyone here get the bonus answers?
Jun 8th, 2009 at 20:20 GMT
Yes, that movie helped me remember these
Jun 9th, 2009 at 03:31 GMT
The Right Stuff was a great movie! And it definitely helped.

Amazing quiz! Please please please do the Gemini and Apollo astronauts next!! Oh, bonus answers? I didn't even think to try any, I must go back and do so now! And I agree, The Right Stuff's a fantastic movie!

I'm thanking Thunderbirds. The Tracy sons were named after 5 of these astronauts. :)

Between The Right Stuff and Apollo 13, I should've known them all. Alas, no.

For those craving Apollo quizzitude, there's one on the men who've walked on the moon at http://www.sporcle.com/games/moonwalkers.php .

I don't see why this quiz is under science rather than history. It's a quiz about a series of historical facts and it makes no mention at all of the great scientific and technological advances that got them there. A quiz about rocket design would be science; a quiz about who flew the things is history. To me, this is no more a quiz about science than a quiz about horse racing is biology.

@davidr: There are some quizzes that would blend in in more than one category, this would be an example. I can see why you think it should be under history, but would make sense under science as well. You could say the same for games such as "World Population 1900," which is under History because of the historical aspect of being from 1900, but would fit in under geography because it is about countries' populations.
Jun 11th, 2009 at 14:59 GMT
@GeoExpert: I agree absolutely that `World Population 1900' can be classed equally as geography and history — it's a quiz about historical geography or, if you prefer, geographic history. But I really don't see any science in this quiz. Sure, there's science in building the rockets but this quiz isn't about any of that. None of the people named in the quiz are scientists and no knowledge of any scientific concept is required to answer it.

Two bonuses...if you saw "The Right Stuff" you should have no problem remembering them...names might be difficult however
Jul 4th, 2009 at 16:41 GMT
Davidr. This quiz is about space exploration. It is not much different from "Space Shuttles," which by the way, is classified under science. The only difference between that quiz and this one and why you think Mercury Astro should be History is that this quiz is about something that happened in the past, and Space Shuttles is current. But think about it, after 2010, the shuttle will be retired as well. Even if you ask the Space Camp people about space exploration, they would say it is science. (not history)

The descriptions of the bonus answers are not quite right -- can't say more without giving big hints. Check the literature, and you'll see what I mean.

I've seen The Right Stuff, and have no idea what the bonuses could be. Any more hints?
Jul 29th, 2011 at 22:07 GMT
My reference materials listed four 'bonuses', but I could only get the game to accept two.

"Gordon Cooper orbited the Earth 17 times, flying farther, higher, and faster, than any man ever before, briefly making him 'The Greatest Pilot on the Face of the Earth'". If you've seen The Right Stuff more than twice, this quiz is a lot easier.
