So many people seem to believe that the UK is the only left driving country in the world. That is obviously wrong. Why don't they talk the same about Japan and Australia?

A lot of these countries used to be colonies of the UK.

Ack! Why is St. Vincent not listed after St. Kitts and St. Lucia? I didn't guess it because it didn't "fit" alphabetically...

Okay - discrepancies from previous quizzes - in ALL of the other quizzes with East Timor, it's listed as Timor Leste. Please be consistent. Go with whichever is the country's proper name and leave it at that.

I wonder how it is on the borders of these countries... For example, driving into Pakistan from Afghanistan might cause some problems.

I kinda want to go where you switch...Like the border between Angola and Namibia and see what confusion is going on.

What percentage of the world's population does this list make up? Almost certainly less than half, but still a pretty decent percentage.

I don't know, this quickly became another "Guess as many countries as you can, quiz". I'll get voted down for saying as such, but after a while, that's all it was to me

I was under the impression for some reason that the Old World drove on the left side and the New World drove on the right so that there would be no switch-overs at country borders.

@Philip F.: According to Wikipedia, these countries have about 34% of the world's population, though only about 28% of the world's road traffic.

@Otacon: The change-over at borders between left-hand and right-hand driving countries is achieved on major roads either by using traffic lights or a bridge to lift one direction over the other. For roads with little traffic, there's just a sign telling you to sort it out on your own.

@The Snakes: Actually, the Americans do have some roundabouts. There's at least one in San Francisco and at least one in Sioux City, Iowa.

@Davidr - Not as many as in Swindon - for non-roundabout users feast your eyes on http://maps.google.com/maps?ie=UTF8&ll=51.562865,-1.771371&spn=0.000859,0.002843&t=h&z=19 and be afraid.

I didn't expect them to show up on the quiz, but the (now Chinese) cities of Hong Kong and Macau both still drive on the left. You can see a somewhat convoluted switchover point between Macau and Mainland China at http://maps.google.com/?ie=UTF8&ll=22.140586,113.545235&spn=0.006489,0.009645&t=h&z=17

@MattL1216: Unless you type very quickly, `S(ain)t Vincent' will get you St Vincent and the Grenadines. There seem to be some issues with this sort of thing at the moment: neither `antiguaandbarbuda' nor `trinidadandtobago' is accepted; nor is any version of `S(ain)t Vincent and the Grenadines' that includes `and' and/or `the'.

I tried to think of countries that were closely associated with the British for the past century and a half or so. I missed Japan because of this strategy and from what little I know of history, though :(

@The Snakes: There are some roundabouts in the US (called rotaries, actually, in New England, at least). But the UK is a bit bizarre in having roundabouts where there's absolutely no need for them. Also, I don't quite understand the purpose of large roundabouts controlled by traffic lights (again, in the UK)... building the roundabout seems like a lot of effort to just create a really complicated lighted intersection.

@ AJ- Try thinking before you speak eh? In there we have the country that was the kickstart to global development (UK and the industrial revolution) and Japan the most technologically advanced people in the world. Good quiz though, almost guess the British Empire colonies, but not quite :)

@xball that was the joke. Also call me a dumb American but I had thought most of the world drove on the left-side and that we were the strange ones for driving on the right.
