	If the Aral sea is 3 lakes with total area of 33000 km^2 as stated in the bonus answer, then at least one of those three lakes should have the 10000 km^2 needed to be on the top 20. (Although the way the Aral's going, in a few more years it may not matter.)

	@phw: The admins have edited this quiz somewhat from the version I submitted (from an admittedly undersourced Wikipedia page). The World Almanac gives a much higher area for the Aral Sea than the 17,160km² quoted by Wikipedia. The latter figure means that none of the components has to be bigger than 6000km².

	`Lake' Maracaibo is also connected to the Atlantic Ocean. It's just a bay of the Caribbean Sea. It's at sea level and opens directly out into the ocean across a five-mile-wide boundary: there's not even a short river between the two.

	@RunnDMC: Seriously? Loch Ness is under 60km²: the twentieth lake on this list is more than 140 times its size. Also, Loch Lomond is bigger than Loch Ness (a little over 70km²) and Lough Neagh in Northern Ireland is considerably bigger than either (388km²). The top two lakes here are bigger than the whole of Scotland and the top twelve are bigger than Wales. For American context, the top fifteen are bigger than Connecticut and number two is fractionally smaller than South Carolina.

	@Booger: I'm disappointed that I forgot Lake Titicaca. I basically the Caspian Sea, the Great Lakes, No. 2, and the bonus of the Aral Sea (only because I've been reading a book that mentioned it as a huge environmental disaster). Tough quiz.

	@Ben: Lake Vänern is about 26th (5,545km²); Vättern is rather smaller (1,900km²) but is still Sweden's second-largest lake. Data from Wikipedia, which quotes a rather different list to the one used here, hence `about'.
