	England, Scotland, Northern Ireland and Greenland are not independent countries (the first three being parts of the UK and the last being a Danish dependency). That's why they're not listed here. I missed three. I can't believe I forgot Pakistan! It's one of those "so obvious I overlooked it" moments.

	England, Greenland, Northern Ireland, Scotland, etc. are not autonomous countries. They're more like Kurdistan or Maryland and ought not be included on this list.

	The argument will go on forever with several different answers. On one hand England and Scotland are countries, the United Kingdom is a Sovereign State. The UK Government's official statistics website lists them as separate countries. But in some global organisations because of the confusing history of the United Kingdom, they list the country as the United Kingdom.

	Well technically the country name is 'The United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland', commonly known as United Kingdom, so should probably be included. However neither England or Scotland are independent countries. As someone who lives there, I think I know.

	Ahh missed Finland. Thought I would find this easier with all my brave attempts at "Countries of the world", but this is a whole new way of looking at countries hehe. Plus, I'm from the Netherlands (25.8%?!?!) and we have a lot more country names ending in -land (Greece - Griekenland, Germany - Duitsland, Russia - Rusland etc.).

	yeah, funny thing ... neither switzerland nor poland end with "-land" in the respective national language (in case of switzerland in none of the three languages). on the other hand, some other countries do (but not in their english names).

	I think croissantfever makes a good point (as well has having a great name!) in that "The United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland" does indeed end in -land so should be included.

	@jack: I suspect that the -stans do better because they're all adjacent to one another and, when doing the Countries of the World quiz, most people do them as a block. The -lands, on the other hand, are scattered around the globe.

	Fun little quiz. Really had to think hard since the "lands" are geographically spread out over the world, and the timer is so short. But I like that, I'd rather see how many I can get in X amount of time, rather than how long it takes to get them all. I think people tend to forget that. Thanks for another great quiz!

	I considered including United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, but didn't include it because this site always uses common names, not full official names. For example, I don't recall ever seeing "Swiss Confederation" or "Grand Duchy of Luxembourg" on this website. I was bound to be criticised either way.

	Similarly with Solomons Islands and Marshall Islands, I was bound to be criticized either way. The directions note specifically that -land can be singular or plural. The etymoloy of island shows that the word means "sea land", which again, is good enough for me: 'I(s)land' is from the Anglo-Saxon 'ealand', i.e. sea-land or land girt round with the sea.(c.f.German 'eiland').’
