Sweet. Should have a giant quiz that includes retired jersey numbers for all NBA teams.

Missed #25 but is there a reason George Mikan's 99 isn't retired? I realize he played in MIN. but he was a LAKER and easily an all time great?

Gail Goodrich, you sneaky bastard! Even if there wasn't an all-retired jersey quiz, I think more quizzes for the more vital professional sports teams would be fantastic.

Given that we already have quizzes for the Yankees, Celtics, Habs, and now Lakers (correct me if I'm missing others), would there really be much of a point in such a quiz? Why not just fill in the few teams that still need one?

@Kevin- you forgot the GREATEST TEAM of them all THE CARDINALS. But there are over 120 teams between the NHL, NBA, MLB, and NFL and while some warrant their own quiz a combo quiz of the ones that have only 1 or 2 retired #'s would be cool.. The Miami Heat retired numbers wouild be really cool considering of the 3 numbers they have retired only the most recent actually played for the team and 1 didn't even play basketball.

I find it ironic that someone named Bryant supports the Celtics. Anyway, the Celtics retire way too many numbers, like 23 so far versus the Lakers' 7...at least all these Lakers are legends.

Yeah, you can take it too far sometimes. Retiring a number should be reserved for a truly legendary player. It's a pretty big honor IMHO when you say that no one will ever again wear the jersey number that another player wore.

i only got 3 right, I don't know much about basketball history. But What does MIC mean, it says that's what Francis Dayle 'Chick' Hearn's number was?

Josh, Chick Hearn was the Lakers' announcer for 40 years. (MICrophone)

According to this, the Lakers have honored several people (including Mikan) from the Minneapolis era, but their numbers are not officially retired: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Los_Angeles_Lakers_accomplishments_and_records#Retired_jerseys

@Jeremy: I don't see how you can say that a team that just showed up at the Superbowl last year for the very first time and lost is the "GREATEST TEAM of them all".... (I should probably put this comment in an <emily_litella /> element for the humor-impaired.)

New York Football Giants retired numbers quiz. They have retired a bunch of numbers, and it would be a very challenging quiz as the numbers would be mostly old timers.

Maybe they should have made Hearn a bonus since he was neither a player nor did he have number retired like the question says...

Malonetd-- you 4got "It's in the refrigerator"...then "the doors closed.. and so on" what about when he said, "he got'm in the popcorn machine!" after a laker pump fakes a player and makes him jump...anywho but that was an easy quiz!

True Laker Legend...MICHAEL COOPER #21-- SHOULD HAVE HIS JERSEY RETIRED!!!! He earned eight NBA All Defensive Team selections (five 1st Team honors)& was NBA Defensive Player of the Year in 1987. He spent his entire career with the Los Angeles Lakers and was a member of five NBA Championship teams (1980, ’82, ’85, ’87 and ’88). So why NO Banner for COOOOP??!!! Laker Legend... are we talking about longevity or contribution? what about Shaq? I would put his name up there... Kobe? FO SHO!! who else?

@ Mojorisin25: Coop would be worthy of having his jersey # retired. So would Byron Scott. As for Shaq, I don't know if he's on good terms with the Lakers organization after his trade to the Heat, but once he retires he's definately someone that should be honored.

I always found it extremely strange that the Lakers retired Chamberlain's number (when he was more of a Warrior/76er than a Laker) and even Goodrich/Worthy's and not Mikan's.
