Never let it be said that I don't know my Kennedys. I'd like to try one on the grandkids; that would be a little more challenging. You might consider accepting "Kick" for Kathleen; that was her nickname. Though I suppose anyone who knows that would know her real name.

For all the good the Kennedys did, their treatment of Rosemary was really sickening.

@ted: Yes, but considering that they have given more to the country than any other family, cumulatively a President, Two Ambassadors, an SEC Chair, three Senators, an AG, a Lt. Governor and numerous Congressman, the attention is deserved.

@ted: 2 assassinated, 4 killed in plane crashes, 2 killed in other accidents, one the victim of a failed lobotomy... I think by any standards that's pretty terrible, not just because they're famous.

@quiztaker: I'm a Kennedy fan but keep in mind they've served in all those positions because they had money and connections and got the opportunities, which most families never get. There are many families who've lost many members serving in the military. @chris: Rosemary didn't have a "failed" lobotomy. Most people who got lobotomies ended up like her. And it wasn't some random event - her father sought it out and had it done, against the advice of other doctors and against the wishes of her mother and other family members. She was a victim of her father.

@debbiedoesnothing: unfortunately because it turned out poorly, it was a horrible mistake. Had Joe been right in his decision making and the Labotomy worked he would've been a hero instead. Parents will try anything to make sure their kids have the best life they can have, it's just sad that he turned out to be wrong.

Let's be fair; a lot of the Kennedy's weren't angels either. I'm not trying to start anything, but you have to call it down the middle. If you're going to discuss the virtues, you also need to talk about the flaws.

@chris...according to your numbers, that's ten kids. Only two died in plane crashes, none in any other accidents. The only ambassador they had was the father, and he was fired by FDR for being a Nazi lover.

@cocky: Jean was the Ambassador to Ireland and just because Joe Sr. supported Chamberlain's Appeasment, it doesn't make him a "Nazi lover".

@guinevere ... I agree that they should accept "Kick", and they've now changed it accordingly. But I guess I'm one of those few who didn't know Kick's real name; I kept typing various K names until I got the right one with one second left! @ pr ... Although Sporcle has now set things up so people only need type "Rose", I actually disagree that they should accept "Rose" for Rose Marie. Ted works for Edward, Bobby for Robert, Jack for John, Kick for Kathleen --- but that's all because those are the names the FAMILY used for them. I don't think anyone in the family regularly called Rose Marie "Rose"; from the recordings I've heard, she was known as "Rosemary". I'd feel the same way if they decided to accept "Ed" or "Eddie" for Edward. Not that it's a big deal, of course! I'm happy if people can get perfect scores.

They did achieve their fame and fortune because their dad Joseph was a mobster during prohibition. Once you amass enough wealth you are able to whitewash the way you got it.

@Chubcity
Joseph did more than import liquor during the prohibition, a disaster and horrible mistake in and of itself. He did more than his fair share of work pre-prohibition and depression, so to call him a mobster is a disservice to his legacy at whole.
Requiescat in Pacem to all of the Kennedy family who have passed (along with all those who have passed). One can only imagine what could have been if Jack and Robert hadn't been killed...

Many of us might not have always agreed with Ted's policies, but he seemed to genuinely care and he could reach across party lines, something baby boomer politicans and younger are not doing well. I think in his earnest service to the people that he redeemed himself from his more bitter demons. R.I.P. Senator and peace to all your family.

What I like about the Kennedys is that even though they were born to power and privelege, they nevertheless fought (and still continue to fight) for those less fortunate than themselves. No, we should not ignore their failings, but overall they have done much more good than bad for this country and the world.

@Jenzy The fact is that there really were no such things as "successful lobotomies". Yes, the patient became more docile and easier to control, but they lost their personality and a lot of times their ability to take care of basic needs. Though when Rosemary had her lobotomy in 1941, only 65 had been performed so far. So, I do wonder if Joe Sr. would've made the same decision if there had been a larger sample of people with mental disabilities due to lobotomies at the time. And I'm glad to see that Kick works for Kathleen. I realize she's the least guessed Kennedy, but she was always my sentimental favorite. She really knew how to stick it to Rose. Plus Kick is just a kick ass nickname.

Eunice just a few years ago in a speech said that no one had more of an effect on JFK than his sister Rosemary. And it makes sense. They were only a year apart, and Joe was the one being groomed to be president by his father.

In 1964, we passed the Civil Rights Movement in honor of JFK. I think, in 2010, we should pass the Gay Marriage bill. Ted would have wanted it.

Also, I would like to say to everyone badmouthing the Kennedys: Shut up! None of them were perfect, but none of you are, either. The three younger brothers probably gave more to this country than any family has given or will give. God bless their memory.
