Yeah, they definitely spelled Shizuoka wrong there. The only reason why I didn't get all of them. In regards to Brad's comment, I was actually waiting for them to do something like this since I am living in Japan at the moment. Some people are actually interested in things outside of their own country.

Remember to name things you remember about Japan... From movies, sports, events, names, etc... It will really help you out. With a decent knowledge of Japan and a few lucky guesses I got 32

i got 4, shame on me! @ chris: you're right, if i had gone done down that route i probably could have scraped a few more together. This is a hard one! Oh and brad: did you ever consider that maybe japanese people play sporcle too?

@lulu and accusitorially @brad. Yes, just because the entire site is English, does not mean other countries do not use it. Your proof is that half of these comments are from England, another portion from Ireland, and even Canada and Mexico. Brad, just because you are a bigot, does not mean Sporcle is.

Could we maybe have a definition of 'prefecture' at the top of the quiz? I wasn't familiar with the term, which after a quick google seems to be roughly analogous to 'county' (from a British understanding).

20/47 - by naming cities I'd heard of. I love these - being the nerd I am, I will learn them all! @JoeGrizzly - I think Sporcle is American not English!

Second time round and I'm just getting major cities, the islands, the ones with names that match famous people like Miyazaki, and, of course, the Fuku ones because of my immature sense of humor.

Very hard quiz but I like ones like this as it's a great way to learn new things about countries. Don't understand the comment from Brad, I might not be interested in NHL quizzes but appreciate that others are.

@ Dubliner: I learnt them by grouping those with similar sounds - Gifu and Fukui, Shizuoka and Fukuoka and so on. Although as I understand it, in the USA they do it west to east, and there's a set order, which I don't think there is for Japan.

I learned them by region. There are 8 regions of Japan: Kyushu(which includes Okinawa), Shikoku, Chugoku, Kansai(aka Kinki), Chubu, Kanto, Tohoku and Hokkaido. Compartmentalizing them like this might help.

The only ones I got were the cities. Tokyo, Osaka, Kyoto, Saga, Nagasaki, and Hiroshima. Also got Hokkaido and Okinawa
