	wouldn't Montenegro's independence be from Serbia and Montenegro, as that was the name of the country it had been a part of.

	Liberia DID NOT gain independence from the "United States." It was founded by a private philanthropic society (the American Colonization Society) and was never ruled by a foreign state. The US did not even formally recognize Liberian independence until 1862.

	@rodbeck: Why? It wasn't called Zaire when it gained independence, and it hasn't been called that for 15 years. It was called the Congo at the beginning and it's been called the same for going on 20 years.

	Sesel, technically, Liberia was founded by the American Colonization Society, and did declare itself an independent nation on the date given. Also, very unnecessary quotes around United States. Great Quiz

	16/22. Great quiz, need to combine geography, history and little bit of logic in cases you don't know the whole history. Also good that you have to type only the specific answer one by one.

	There is a mistake, Finland's independence day is 6th of December. I liked the quiz, but it was pretty hard for me.

	Interesting quiz. I got them all correct. Not because I recognized the dates but rather by remembering which present country used to belong to the other. Must comment: June 17th is strictly speaking not celebrated as an independence day in Iceland. It is actually the Republic Day, as the republic was proclaimed on that day in 1944. Iceland had previously been an independent kingdom since 1918. Also: Liberia did not gain independence from u.s.a. but was founded by refugees from the u.s.a. and I believe it would be more correct to say that Montenegro gained its independence from Yugoslavia (the last one to do so).

	Belgium declared independence on 21th of july in 1830, not 1831. In 1831 Belgium got his first king, but was already an independent country. Otherwise a great quiz.

	Interestingly, even though India and Pakistan were granted independence by the same act (Indian Independence Act of 1947), one celebrates its independence on 14 August, the other on 15 August.

	My apologies on Finland. I must have typed in the wrong month. I'll put a request in to correct it. Liberia did declare independence from the US on the date given and its celebrates its independence on July 26th. Jasper, you are correct that Belgium should be 1830, not 1831.

	Both Papua New Guinea and Samoa were once German colonies, and for various reasons (including Germany losing its colonies in WWI) they passed hands to Australia and New Zealnd respectively. They were never 'colonized' as such by either Australia or New Zealand.

	Also Serbia and Montenegro. Serbia also celebrates their independence in 2006. Contrary to what most people think, Montenegro did not separate from Serbia, they split. Think of it like Texas & Oklahoma. But the quiz is not wrong, no need to update this.
