	How Nolan Ryan got that high is beyond me. Sure, he should be in the Hall of Fame, but he is definitely the most overrated pitcher in MLB history. He not only has the lowest winning percentage of any 300 game winner in history, he also only had TWO 20-win seasons in a time when they were much easier to attain than nowadays. Not to mention his untouchable record of nearly 3,000 walks. Oh, and he never even won one Cy Young award.

	mungar: Wins are fickle and are often dependent on the teams you pitch for. You try playing for generally mediocre teams like the Mets, Astros, Angels and Rangers between the years 1966 and 1993 and see how well you do. As for the walks, do you believe Brett Favre should not be a consensus NFL hall of fame selection just because he is the all-time NFL leader in interceptions?

	@mungar: The man has 7 no-hitters. That alone is enough to get my vote for the HOF. @Booger: I've seen the "you try doing (whatever) and see how well you do" argument a lot, but I think that one takes the cake for ridiculousness.

	There are a few travesties here. Jackie Robinson, Cy Young, Mickey Mantle, Joe DiMaggio, Whoever didn't think they were hall of famers should have their voting card revoked. Jackie Robinson only has his number retired for every team in the league.

	Seaver being on top is JOKE. Ben, we need lists of hall of famers for all sports. Loads of work but they'll be a ton of fun. Maybe instead of year inducted you can just do the team they are enshrined in. thanks!

	Seaver is one of the best pitchers ever. His run from 1967 to 1976 may be the best ever and the rest wasn't too shabby. Ryan is an extremely overrated player but not nearly as much as Cal Ripken Jr. Consecutive games doesn't mean anything if you are mediocre for half of them. The true iron man played and dominated until he died and he is not on this list. Put an asterisk on Ripken. Gehrig forever.

	I just looked this up and found out that Lou Gehrig's career batting average was the same as Ripken's OBP. .340. Does a 340 OBP and 276 average deserve this kind of worship?

	I am breaking the three post rule here but Lou Gehrig should be number one on this list or at least a bonus as his induction was unanimous. Ripken still sucks though.

	Let me just say that the Baseball and Football HOF games I did a while back.. its tough to get them to fit so thats why its taking a bit to get them up... it will happen... glad you all enjoy the games :)

	@pr: Lou Gehrig is only one of two players voted in by the BBWAA (Baseball writers Association of America) who was voted in by being exempted from the normal voting process. I imagine the idea was that if they waited for him to be eligible for induction he would probably not be alive to see it (and he wouldn't have been). The other is Roberto Clemente who was immediately made eligible after his death. So in fact it actually speaks a lot of Gehrig to NOT be on this list.

	@ Tim Allen: I didn't mean that mungar should literally try to go back in time to pitch for those teams! Perhaps I should have phrased it better, but you get the gist of what I mean: wins and losses are often not within the control of the pitcher.

	pr: If anything, Ripken's actual accomplishments on the field are UNDERRATED. The guy was a much better fielder than he gets credit for (not his fault that he happened to be direct contemporaries with both Ozzie Smith and Omar Vizquel, most people's picks for #1 and #2 all-time defensive shortstops) and he was a monster offensive player for a SS of his era. Guys like Jeter, A-Rod and Nomar didn't show up until the end of Ripken's career, by which time he was already a 2 Time MVP and a Hall of Famer.

	@J Lopp: As much as I hate to admit it, I agree. Rose just got caught. There's a large conspiracy theory out there that says that when Michael Jordan shocked the world with his unexpected first retirement, it was actually a large cover-up by the NBA to punish Jordan for his gambling addiction. He was (and still is) a HUGE gambler. The question is whether or not he bet on basketball (sound familiar?). I find it hard to believe he wouldn't combine two of his greatest loves, the game of basketball and gambling. Point being: Would Jordan ever be excluded from the basketball HOF? I think not.

	I'm just shocked, thinking over the best players in baseball history, to see Tom Seaver at the top. He was a great pitcher, but I think that there are tons of players better.

	As much as I love my 'stros, throughout the 80s, they gave Ryan absolutely no run support. When he was on his game, he was untouchable - hence the 7 no-hitters. I kept trying to type in Gehrig over and over, since I was sure I was just spelling his name wrong. And I personally think whenever Carl Yaz is an answer, sporcle should take "Carl Yaz" as the correct answer - that's what I always heard him called. Yastrzemski is impossible to spell - I keep sticking z and s in, but I can never seem to get them in the right places.

	I faced Seaver and Ryan....oh yes....they belong on top.....dominant.....never faced Gibson, but I'm surprised he's not there.

	Young actually took more than one ballot to make the hall, thats the incredible part..... 511 wins, even though he lost more games than anyone its because he went the distance almost every time out. Gehrig received just over 50 votes in the inaugural 1936 election and wasn't on any other ballots, being selected in a separate vote.

	how can anyone say cal ripken is the most overrated player in history? he was an outstanding player, over 3000 hits, 431 home runs, mostly as a shortstop. 2x gold glover, 2 MVPs, rookie of the year, 19 all-star teams, 8 silver sluggers. This doesn't begin to state the impact he had on the game outside of stats. He kept baseball alive in Baltimore during times when the team was dreadful, and inspired a generation of kids to play good, clean baseball.

	full hall of fame quiz would be great! it would definitely need the longest clock ive seen(or actually havent seen yet) on sporcle. I had 22 answers right the first time,stopped playing with 10 or so seconds left so I didnt see the answers then played again and got all 25...funny thing is last 2 I got the 2nd time,were ones I got the first time

	Cal Ripken is overrated: Only 3 .300 BA out of 18 seasons. He hit 400 homers but 30 only once. His lifetime OBP is .340. Those are only small improvements over the league averages of .264 and .332 during Ripken's career. Among members of the 3000 hit club he has the lowest career average and on base percentage. He is the record holder for most double plays grounded into. His career stats consist of 3 or 4 excellent seasons surrounded by a sea of mediocre ones. His reputation rests on a meaningless streak and a great personality/attitude which endeared him to fans and writers. In reality his actual achievements are not much more impressive than other excellent but not revered players like Barry Larkin.

	I think the strength of the ballot can definitely influence the percentages somewhat. The 1992 draft class (Seaver's) was pretty weak for first timers, with the best of the rest being the likes of Tony Perez, George Foster, etc., going as low as Ben Oglivie. Voters are human beings - looking at Seaver and then the rest could lead to a quick vote for Seaver, as he was head and shoulders above the rest. Also, he was a likeable guy, and voters were still dealing with the Pete Rose situation at the time, so Seaver's good-guy image might have gotten him still more quick yeses. In Tom Seaver's case, it seems like he just had a lot of things working for him on top of his great resume.

	1) Players are inducted and not inaugurated. 2) This is a cool quiz, but I think "first-ballot hall of famers" would be better. It would basically be similar to this list but it might be a lot more fun/useful.
