| Everyone who says otherwise doesn't know what they're talking about. It's the HEBREW calendar, more than the "Jewish" calendar. Not even sure if religion would be the right category. @segacs, well the calendar is the lunar calendar, for one, and these are the Hebrew names of the months on it.
Sure, the Jewish holidays are on it, but it's used for way more than just religious purposes in Israel, where most people aren't even religious. Most Israelis, whether they're religious or not, remember their Hebrew birthdays/wedding anniversaries as well as their Gregorian ones. Also, any national historical event having to do with Israel has the anniversary recognized mostly via that calendar. Their Independence day, for instance (which is anything but a "religious" holiday), is celebrated and remembered on the Hebrew date, and the Gregorian date Israel became an independent state is mostly ignored. |
