Here I thought this would be the easiest quiz of all time, and I couldn't get his first team. I am very disappointed in myself.

As a huge Gretzky fan, I had no trouble with this quiz. I've seen the DVD Ultimate Gretzky about 50 times. Truly he was "The Great One."

Let's go Rain-juhs! Clap clap. Clap clap clap.

Surprised I got them all. Funny that the half season with the Blues produced one of the most famous goals of all time, when he turned the puck over and Yzerman beat Jon Casey top shelf in OT.

I kinda thought the Coyotes would be a bonus, but still a good quiz.
Sep 4th, 2009 at 15:56 GMT
the greatest hockey player who ever lived! (sorry bobby orr fans.)
Sep 4th, 2009 at 16:21 GMT
I knew it was Indianapolis...I just couldn't remember what they were called. Damn
Sep 4th, 2009 at 16:36 GMT
A think a better idea for a quiz would be Rickey Henderson teams, at least that'll be more than 5 lol.
Sep 4th, 2009 at 16:36 GMT
Don't feel bad about not getting the Indianapolis one. It wasn't an NHL team.
Sep 4th, 2009 at 16:44 GMT
@Luke: If you read the description, it says WHA and NHL. The Indianapolis Racers were in the World Hockey Association, aka WHA, from 1974-1978.

Curious on the negative points? I point something out about the title and it's bad?
Sep 4th, 2009 at 17:27 GMT
I was hoping ProStars would be a bonus answer.
Sep 4th, 2009 at 17:28 GMT
dtown, people don't like being corrected I guess.
Sep 4th, 2009 at 17:36 GMT
I love any commemoration of the brief but occasionally glorious run of Gretzky with the St. Louis Blues. Even though many don't remember it, it's the trade that I credit with getting me interested in sports.
Sep 4th, 2009 at 17:56 GMT
I know it's in the quiz. I'm not complaining about the quiz. I'm just saying it's not shameful to not know the name of a team from a defunct league. I.E. if I forgot that Babe Ruth played for the Red Sox, it would be more embarrassing because the Red Sox are a team in MLB.
Sep 4th, 2009 at 18:02 GMT
Gotcha, ignore my first comment then.

Wow, those Sporcle demigods always know how to surprise you. I made this quiz about, oh, 1396 years ago. I'm glad they used it. I'm not much of a hockey fan, but you (and by "you", I mean "everyone") must respect the great one. Have fun, and have a great Labor Day weekend (or, for you non-Americans, just a weekend), everybody.
Sep 4th, 2009 at 20:01 GMT
Who else guessed the Soo Greyhounds hoping it would be a bonus answer?
Sep 4th, 2009 at 22:10 GMT
I still remember "The Trade" like it was yesterday.
Sep 4th, 2009 at 22:29 GMT
Coyotes as a bonus?
Sep 5th, 2009 at 01:54 GMT
Finally, a hockey quiz where Wayne Gretzky is not an answer.
Sep 5th, 2009 at 02:34 GMT
Tripped up by the WHA, how depressing.
Sep 5th, 2009 at 16:26 GMT
Makes me sick remembering he was a Ranger. :vomits:
Sep 9th, 2009 at 07:18 GMT
I forgot the about the first team. Oh well. Gotta love getting in the spirit of hockey!
Dec 5th, 2009 at 17:28 GMT
it was cooliosis
Dec 29th, 2009 at 05:54 GMT
I couldn't remember his first team and completely forgot about the season with the blues. Disapointed in myself.

Wayne Gretzky: Above and Beyond, greatest VHS of all time.
Mar 11th, 2010 at 16:41 GMT
I don't like hockey, but, being from L.A., I knew Kings and Oilers, and from there, started guessing other NHL teams I had heard of.
Mar 28th, 2010 at 02:45 GMT
The thing that always struck me about his time in St. Louis was how he and Hull never clicked. Here you have the greatest passer the game has ever seen and one of the greatest shooters in the game on the same team, and they couldn't work well together for some odd reason.
Apr 7th, 2010 at 01:22 GMT
would have been a challenge to name some teams before pro hockey
May 27th, 2010 at 00:37 GMT
Gretzky is not the greatest player ever. Mario is!! Gretzky had all kinds of talent with him in his entire career so of course he is going to look good. Mario Mario Mario Mario Mario!!!
Jun 7th, 2010 at 02:07 GMT
pensfan - the reason Gretzky had talented players around him was he helped them become talented where as Mario made them look great while playing with him. That's what makes Gretzky the greatest of all time and Mario the best ever.
Jun 7th, 2010 at 02:10 GMT
Bragging time. I am one of the few people in the world to be able to say I was a spectator to watch Wayne play for 6 pro teams he played for (WHA Oilers were his sixth, technically speaking ;)).
Jun 25th, 2010 at 05:43 GMT
Lemieux had no talented teammates? I guess we're not counting Jaromir Jagr, the only player besides Gretzky and Lemieux to win the Art Ross trophy between 1981 and 2001.
Nov 1st, 2010 at 21:08 GMT
Including the Racers is just plain evil. Also saying Kuri and Messier weren't talented without Gretzky making them talented is moronic.
Sep 27th, 2011 at 01:51 GMT
Pretty easy. Only took me 7 seconds.
Oct 1st, 2011 at 18:29 GMT
took me 19 seconds. and i'm only 12...
Jan 6th, 2012 at 05:53 GMT
8 seconds, woulda been faster if it wasn't for me accidentally putting "Pacers" for the WHA team
Feb 4th, 2012 at 00:16 GMT
6 seconds. haha
Aug 5th, 2012 at 11:55 GMT
never heard of the Indianapolis Racers!
