| Actually, it really depends on who you read for who depicts whom as the god of the sun. Sometimes it's Helios, sometimes it's Apollo. With so many myth writers (Hesiod, Homer, Apollodorus, Euripides, Aeschylus, Sophocles, Pindar, Ovid, Vergil, etc., etc., etc.) each one works on different traditions and brings in their own ideas. A different idea would be to consider Helios, Selene, and Eos as second generation Titans, and when Zeus overthrew Kronos, Apollo took over Helios' job. Even this version has its problems, however. |
