| @JohnJF: Every one of those films (with the exception of the 1981 winner) picked up at least one other major Oscar, and most of them won two.
Best Director awards went to the films of 1980 and 1982-1988.
Best Actor winners came from the films of 1982, 1984 and 1988.
Best Actress winners came from the films of 1983 and 1989.
Best Supporting Actor winners came from the films of 1980 and 1983.
Obviously, tastes differ but I'd have to say the 1980s Best Picture winners were pretty damned impressive. (And if you really think that Raging Bull was the "all-time snub", you weren't paying attention to 1985 when a film was nominated for 11 awards and received ZERO. There were some cries of "racism" given the film's subject matter. Additionally, the film's director was NOT nominated--the only director of a Best Picture nominee to not be nominated for Best Director.) |
