| @ElDavo: I disagree completely about your "few exceptions" point. Have they given the award to artists that, in hindsight, aren't particularly good? Absolutely. But since then, they've also awarded some of the most important artists of the past 50 years- Clapton, Michael Jackson, Dylan, Lennon, Ray Charles, Paul Simon, etc. There are artists that I don't particularly like- U2, Dixie Chicks, Phil Collins- that were completely deserving. And there were albums- "Jagged Little Pill", "Miseducation", "Come Away with Me"- that pretty much everyone would argue merited the trophy. So while the Grammys have had plenty of missteps, I would say that of the past 25 Album of the Year winners, very few should not have won (or at least been in strong contention for the honor). |
