Future entry on this list: Yadier Molina. Speaking of catchers, I'm hoping people were thinking of Ivan (who well-deserves to top the list of catchers) and not another other well-known ballplayer named Rodriguez.

Torii Hunter is missing. Also Mark Langston only has one 's'.

Yes, Rollins won two. However to be on this list you have to win at least four.

@ Jaspa: Actually, A-Rod's a pretty good fielder. Especially for a guy who had to adapt to a new position halfway through his career. Obviously, he's nowhere near Pudge, but for a casual baseball fan, he's not a bad guess. I got 42, and at least the top guy at every position. Can't believe I missed #2 at first base.

@Jaspa: I was going for Ivan, but I was a little surprised that A-Rod didn't pop up. Same with Jeter. I thought they'd have won a few early in their careers. Another surprise no-show: Cal Ripken. I guess Trammell, Fernandez and Vizquel were racking up all the AL gold gloves during his career, but I figured he'd won a few based on name alone.

Entry at the end of this year: Carlos Beltran. He actually might be an underrated fielder because he makes everything look so easy.

I haven't even taken the quiz yet, but it gets a five because I'm so happy to see it after having asked for it (though I have no idea how many other people also asked). Congrats to Greg Maddux, the winner of the most Gold Gloves and my favorite baseball player ever.

A-Rod and Ripken each won two GG at SS. Jeter won 3 (don't ask me how). The Gold Gloves occasionally go to pretty undeserving players, but these guys who managed to win at least four mostly are some pretty slick fielders. Angels CF over the past 25 years: Pettis --> White --> Edmonds --> Erstad --> Hunter. Not too shabby.

i love the gold glove award in theory, but it is so often given on criteria other than defense. so many times, a player's offensive capabilities seem to determine the award (hence, jeter's 3 awards, or michael young last year- when jason bartlett really should have won). its disappointing that those who vote for these awards don't take the time to research what they are deciding. on a brighter note, i am interested to see how sabermetrics will influence future gold glove votes, as the defensive stats are catching up with the offensive stats. it should really shake up the tradition of giving the award to the same guys every year.

@pat: to go along with that, remember that Palmeiro once won a Gold Glove despite only playing 28 games in the field in 1999 - DH the rest. The voters knew he'd won it before, saw that he had a good fielding percentage, and voted for him. A little research would have gone a long way.

Gotta love Jim Kaat. 16 Gold Gloves (all consecutively!!), 283 Career Wins, 2,461 Strikeouts, and a career ERA below 3.50. Can you believe this guy isn't in the Hall of Fame? Travesty.

Surprising that these people ARE NOT on this list: Greg Gagne, Jose "Chico" Lind, Derek Jeter, Jesse Barfield, Cal Ripken Jr., Otis Nixon, Carlton Fisk (he played 25+ years and couldn't get 4 gold gloves?), Gary Carter, Benito Santiago, Darren Lewis, Kent Herbek... and I know he played a lot of his career before '57 but Yogi freakin' Berra didn't win 4 gold gloves!?

miserable 31/88. i'm going to be unpopular in saying this, but bigots like bob feller aside, cal ripken jr. may be my least favorite player in the HOF. as it pertains to this quiz, he only won the GG twice (91-92) when in fact, the only two seasons he deserved it was 89-90. it's one of example of what pat & will mentioned above; the voting is janky and not based on empirical evidence at all. juan pierre, in his one year as a Cub in 06, played an error-free season yet never received a sniff at the GG.

Ok, but errors really aren't very meaningful. They look bad, but an errorless fielder with limited range doesn't have nearly the defensive value that one with great range and an average number of errors. That said Juan Pierre in 2006 had great range according to UZR and Dewan, so he should have been in the hunt. But that distinction identifies the big gap between GG voting and the best defensemen, with probably none more famous than Jeter, who has great hands, but terrible range. No one who takes defensive evaluation seriously thinks he's better than the bottom 8 or so in the league, most think he's one of the worst five consistently. Yet three gold gloves.

Damn, a lot of bitterness toward Jeter on here. His range is crap now, but it wasn't early in his career and he's always had a strong arm... not to mention the hustle plays he's made (going into the bleachers, etc.) that most guys don't do. Anyway, how bout the fact that Kaat and Maddux have more GG's than Ozzie had HR's in a 19-yr career?

Ozzie had 28 career home runs. Are you trying to say that Kaat/Maddux combined have more? But who cares if he didn't hit that many homers? He did win an NLCS game with a homer.

I'm not sure what's more embarrassing, missing I-Rod, the number one overall guessed answer, or not getting a single first baseman.
