According to the source, Augusta (Richmond County) has 192,142 population, so shouldn't it be on here? And Athens-Clark County 112,000

Yeah, I was surprised not to see Augusta on here. Another source also has it as the second largest city in Georgia.

echo that. love how half this list is atlanta suburbs, but i guess that should be expected.

actually, according to that source, augusta and athens are NOT listed as cities, but as counties, so perhaps that explains why they are not on this list. still seems wrong, as most any georgian would tell you that augusta is one of the largest cities in the state.

I grew in Marietta, live in Athens now, and it is ridiculous that neither Athens nor Augusta is on this list. When I entered Dalton and saw that it was on and Athens wasn't, I laughed out loud.

@Montecarlo: On the source it says "Augusta-Richmond County" The county is called Richmond, but the city is Augusta. Same for "Athens-Clark County." Athens is the city, but the county is called Clark County.

Nice pick for Georgia but I thought it would be more populated my little crappy town/village I grew up at had 50,000 people alone.

Athens and Augusta are Georgia's two consolidated city-counties but that's no reason to omit them. They're still cities after all. Also, it's "Peachtree City", not Peachtree.

montecarlo: Athens-Clarke is a unified city-county government. The city limits of Athens take up the entire county.

zalagreensbury: Basically this entire list is Atlanta plus the other couple of big cities. Not many people live in the city limits of Atlanta, they all live in the suburban sprawl outside I-285.

Now that Georgia is clearly in our mind, Augusta and Athens have been added.

@WhereTheFishLive: There are over half a million people within Atlanta's city limits — hardly `not many', though I take your point that there are many more than that in Atlanta's suburbs.

davidr: Yeah, that's more where I was going. There are definitely a lot of people in the city limits, but considering there are, what 5-6 million people in the metro area, the vast majority live in the 'burbs.

I always suck at these state city quizzes being from Canada, but at least I knew a few of these since I used to work at a call center where we took calls from Georgia. Pissed at myself for spelling Gainesville as Gainsville though and not getting that one.

My bad on Augusta and Athens. The census lists county areas along with cities. I didn't focus properly to realize that Augusta and Athens are one and the same (unified) with their county areas. I'm not perfect, but my snout is immaculate.

Athens? Columbus? Rome? Albany? I think Georgians need to be a bit more original in their city-naming...

When do we get to the podunk states? Mississippi, Alabama, maybe Kansas? I'm serious. Those would be VERY challenging. Plus, I live in Mississippi so I want to have a shot at running the table on one of these some day.

This is a bizarre list of cities, almost like a mish-mash of other, better well-known cities with the same names. Boo Georgia.

@ Ernest and others: I might as well respond on this point now. My initial intent was only to include quizzes for the larger states because the smaller states would be too difficult for most people. We are getting to the point soon where we will have exhausted the larger states. Do people want me to continue with the mid-sized and then smaller states? If so, please vote this up. If not, please vote this down.

"@Booger- Alabama would be fun since I live there. Those small states will be tough, and you might have to combine a few of them. But I can picture the day when Wyoming Cities pops up with the icon being the "Lost Springs Population 1" sign...

Just FYI Johns Creek is wrong. It should be St. John's Creek. It's a brand spanking new city all of about 2 years old.

@SilverCup, Booger - Can there be quizzes like these for Canadian provinces? This Amurrican would do horribly on them, but we may as well learn something while we're avoiding work.

Native Atlantan, and I got 14/18. Johns Creek hasn't officially considered a city for that long, so of course I forgot it. Should have gotten Smyrna and Warner Robins. I have to admit I get a little defensive when someone labels me as "from Georgia". I'm in one of those suburbs with the 5-6 million. ;)

@Booger: Actually, I'm looking forward to you branching out into U.S. territories and commonwealths once you're done with the states. The quiz for the District of Columbia should be pretty easy. ;-) Seriously, though, Puerto Rico could be fairly interesting.

On the flip side of the size question, Rhode Island only has 8 cities and 31 towns, so it's a rather self-contained quiz (like Prime Ministers of Australia). And most of the larger and many of the medium sized towns in Massachusetts and Connecticut shouldn't be too exotic.
