England or Great Britain should be an acceptable name for United Kingdom.

The Country is called UK, not England or Great Britain, so that's correct. I don't see what the 5 are though. Brazil, Mexico, India, China, South Africa. That's a bit random, now?

Hugh: Canada, US, UK, Italy, France, Germany, Russia and Japan are the original G5 (Group of Five). Brazil, Mexico, India, China and South Africa form the so-called O5 (Outreach 5) which has lately been more or less included in G8 countries, forming "G8+5".

Correction: Of course with "G5" I mean "G8". Weekends aren't for thinking.

Uh, a G8 country is a main leader of the world. (+5) countries are the second most main leaders of the world. I know that and I'm only 9!

Oi first Sam, say that right into a Scotsmans face. Don't be suprised if you're lying on the ground in two seconds. Pretty easy quiz.

Sam, as an English/Scottish half-breed, I have to agree with Massagraf... Great Britain is an acceptable alternative for U.K., but England is not. (We call ourselves by the individual country names, e.g England, N. Ireland, Scotland, Wales or for the olympics we call ourselves Team G.B. We don't tend to call ourselves the U.K). I hope that doesn't sound like a lecture, just trying to clear it up for you!

It's understandable that one would think Great Britain would be an acceptable answer for the UK when considering the Olympics. However this is misleading as Great Britain omits Northern Ireland (see other posts by myself and davidr on practically any geography quiz including the UK for details). I don't understand why we aren't team UK (except that, in my opinion, team GB sounds better).

Sorry, I was more offended that this other Sam was bringing shame upon my name by suggesting that England be an alternative answer for the UK. NO! JUST NO!

Jenna: USA is an abbreviation of United States of America. England is one of the countries that makes up the United Kingdom. They're not the same thing.

@cfcno1fan: Easy enough, Italy has a much larger economy than Australia. South Africa is partly there for political reasons however. There are larger economies than South Africa's, who aren't included.

@yodatron - no it's not. the G8 and G20 are seperate entities. The G8+05 is an informal forum for international debate on any global subject, whereas the G20 is primarily concerned with the international financial system.

They way they wrote it it seems like it is G40 because the parentheses suggest multiplying 8 time positive 5
