	Pat, Yashin is no longer alive. It's the best living players. Obviously this is now outdated as George Best has since died. BTW, Rustu and Emre should be acceptable answers for the two turkish players. They are mostly known by the first names and not Recber and Belozoglu respectively. It was cool to a see a woman on the list. But I'm really confused as to why Pele chose Saviola for this list!

	It's a baffling list from Pele, I remember he got a lot of flak for it when it came out. I think the idea of best 'living' footballers is always going to be tough, and he seems to fail in the balance between players who were big at the time (in 2004) and past legends. Some players seem to be on the list purely because of their performances in World Cup 2002 (Diouf, Emre etc). Ah well, was reasonably fun. p.s: Cryuff should DEFINETELY be accepted.

	not as crazy a selection as i expected from pele. the only ones that i instantly thought should definitely not be on the list were diouf, rustu, emre, saviola, nakata and myung-bo.

	had 78 out of 125 and was just warming up - still had the likes of matthaus, ronaldinho, etc to type in - BUT TIME RAN OUT!!! I know Pele's list is a joke and it was only out of politeness that he included S. Korea, Senegal and Turkey - BUT PLEASE SPORCLE - MORE TIME!!

	This list made me irate at the time and still does. Putting dross like Diouf on was purely pandering to minor countries in a pc mad "must include some African and Asian footballers" drive.

	Seeing as Pele was trying to include someone from every continent, its not so surprising that Diouf and Okocha are on the list. In 2002 Diouf was African Player of the Year and in the team of the tournament at the World Cup and Okocha was joint top scorer and player of the tournament at the 2004 African Cup of Nations. I would guess Pele didnt do that much research himself into his fringe selections......

	Okocha was great! He was loved in the Premiership during his time with Bolton and was a genuine talent. So good they named him twice! Stupid list though, too political to be taken with any seriousness. And yeah Cruyff needs to be accepted. It's just like Kuyt/Kuijt, they are both acceptable.

	@mark: I for one found that cringe-worthy. It's not to insult women's soccer/football or Hamm/Akers, who can unashamedly say are far better than I am, but can anyone honestly say with a straight face that Mia Hamm is better than even such Americans as Cobi Jones, Eric Wynalda, Landon Donovan, or Kasey Keller?

	Sporcle! You have been making some strange selctions as to what is acceptable in the past week or so. Cruyff is how he was known. He would probably make it onto any top five players of all time list, but he under 10% of people have got him yet. Please change this.

	Okocha's prime wasn't in the Premiership so people who remember him just from Bolton are not getting the whole story. Anyways this list is somewhat strange even if you allow it to be a somewhat random mix of old and current players. Three Belgians but no Gerets or Scifo? No Larrson or Litmanen. Ian Rush, Sounness, Gerson, no Salas. But this list redeems itself with the legend Rob Rensenbrink.

	A lot of the list is pure rubbish, but its part of what makes it good I suppose, the answers aren't as obvious as they might be. Plus has the challenge of seeing if you can remember who was hot in 2004 but has fades since, like Saviola, who was another of these 'next Maradonas' Argentina throws up every few years (though they may have found a genuine one in Messi)

	Someone needs to tell Pele that Jimmy Greaves is still alive. With the possible exception of Gerd Muller, the best goalscorer of the last sixty years. And indubitably a far better footballer than Gary Lineker or David Beckham, just to use the English ones as an example.

	So agree with you Banterman. How weird to see El Hadji Diouf on there, a disgusting spitter who was the only player in history to wear Liverpool's number 9 and never score.....in 2003/04. Nice one Pele

	Saviola, Nakata, Diouf and two women amongst (no offense, just simply stating the truth) men on this list and no Gerrard, Lampard, Giggs or Scholes just to name a few. Well done Pele :p Don't diss Okocha. He was tremendous. Just because he didn't play for the biggest teams doesn't mean he wasn't a great footballer. His ball skills were amazing.

	When do the sporcle people learn how german umlauts work. ä = ae, ö = oe, ü = ue. If you accept e.g. ä = a that's fine, I can see how it's difficult for people who don't speak german. But when the correct form is not allowed something's wrong.
