Alternate title for this quiz: "110 teams that Michigan will never play in the first game of their season." If Sporcle decides to make a Division II quiz, it should be called "Teams Michigan will play (and get their asses beat by) in the first game of the season."

Or 109 teams that won't be ranked above Ohio State come the end of the year!

This is difficult without the conference affiliations, tough to remember who've you already done. Which is a good thing.

Yes, they lost to appalachian state, but it is extremely rare for Michigan to play 1-AA or whatever they're called now teams. Not that U of M doesn't play cupcakes (as does everyone) but they are unlikely to play teams outside these 120. In fact, I would venture to guess without looking it up, that they have played far fewer games against non-1A teams than most other BCS conference schools like Ohio St. eg.

this is definitely one of those quizzes that when you see what youve missed, you couldve sworn you remembered to type in half of them

I think, actually, App State was ranked higher than some teams in 1-A. I mean, seriously, which is the tougher game on Michigan's schedule? A good D-1AA school, or Indiana, a member of a BCS conference? And bear in mind, I'm an Indiana fan.

I love that Notre Dame has fallen near the middle of the pack as far as people remembering them as an answer. I enjoy seeing the irish fail.

How to score well: 1) State a state. 2) State a state "State".

This is the ultimate NCAA Sports quiz! Tip: Think conference-by-conference. That is how I got 120 on my first try. This quiz is definitely is a first-ballot hall of famer in the Sporcle HOF.

@Geo Expert- I tried that but got distracted so I went state by state and typed in everyone I could think of from each state. The alphabitizing helped some...thats how I realized after 2 minutes I had almost forgotten Missouri as my 120th

A couple of discrepancies for short versions: UCF works, USF doesn't FIU works, FAU doesn't.

@rockgolf: that will only give you 49 results. 34 of those are for the regular state name (i.e., "Florida") and the other 15 are for State Name + "State" (i.e., "Florida State").

@sub: Well, that's still 49 more than I would have otherwise got. As a non-American (and I think I speak for most of the rest of the world here) I am baffled at how much attention Americans pay to quasi-amateur teams where the players are perhaps a year out of high school. Did you know that there is actually a federal law in the US that prevents professional football from being telecast after 6 pm Friday and all day Saturday between September and early December? A federal law!

@rockgolf: I suppose one difference is that in most other countries, people don't really care about club sports in more than one sport (generally, football/soccer). Also, you will probably be even more baffled to find out that high school football is huge in some states, like Texas and Florida.

Wow..tough quiz! 109/120. "Might" have gotten the others if I had another half hour...lol. Missed some bigger names (e.g. BYU, Duke, WF) mixed w/some smaller ones (e.g. FIU, Troy, & TCU). REgardless, awesome challenge!

Nice one, though i'd like to have had UConn accepted for Connecticut and SDSU accepted for san diego state, i'm sure there are others too, but those are a couple that I came across where the acronym or nickname is as common as the actual name of the school

@sub: I doubt that most non-US countries follow only one club sport. In England, cricket would certainly qualify. Baseball and basketball in much of the world. Hockey in cooler climates. And Aussie Rules football. Certainly they'd get better rating on TV than, say hockey does in the States.

I liked this quiz. Anything to get in the mood for football is good, and I thought there was just the right amount of time to both think through the major conferences and then work through the other schools out there.

@rockgolf: There is no such federal law banning NFL games on Friday and Saturday, It's a myth. The NFL and NCAA have a backroom agreement to not play games on Saturday and Sunday, respectively. If such a law were passed, it would violate the 1st Ammendment (Freedom of the Press).

@quiztaker: It's not a myth. If the NFL airs games on Friday/Saturday during the school year, it can lose its antitrust exemption. Since the NFL certainly does not want that to happen, it's effectively banned. 15 U.S.C. 1293.
