One of THE greatest sitcoms ever. However, unfortunate as it may be, I think John Cleese and Connie booth made the right decision on keeping it only 12 episodes. That is (also) how every episode in this series is a classic, and is still hilarious even in the 1000 time.

@TomerNavot: The only thing I can disagree with you on is "one of", in my view, the greatest sitcom ever. They ran a programme in the UK with interviews of the old cast, and Cleese said categorically there would be no more, as they could never make it so good as before.

While I know absolutely nothing about this show (or British TV in general), it is nice to see an episodes quiz that it's actually possible to ace (without cheating).

What did you expect to see out of a torquay hotel window? Sydney opera house? The hanging gardens of Babylon? Wildabeast sweeping majestically across the plain... :) brilliant!

"You have rats in Spain or did Franco have them all shot" "Oh I see it's my fault is it? Well I must be punished then" *Smacks arse* "You're a naughty boy Fawlty" Will always be a classic sitcom.

@milkmeister: Yes, I agree. The only reason I said "one of" is because in my view it shares the first place with another series.

@Tomer Navot: would that other series be Blackadder? I would certainly put that and Fawlty Towers as two of the greatest sitcoms ever.

@BasketCase3000: No, it's from the other side of the globe- Seinfeld (I'll probably get voted down for this). Still, Blackadder is also a fantastic show, and I usually prefer British sitcoms.

Did astonishingly badly on this!! Love the show but the episode titles ... terrible memory! @MovieDynamic The reason there was a 4 year break is partly due to the fact that Booth and Cleese got divorced in the meantime - made working together a little awkward one would imagine ;o)

I agree totally with many of you who have commented before me. Fawlty Towers and Blackadder ARE the two greatest Tv sitcoms of all time - period! Just so many classic lines that will never be forgotten or bettered not just in my lifetime but for hundreds of years beyond. 'Mrs Richards, is this a piece of your brain?'(Joan Sanderson showed her total genius for comedy in my favourite guest appearance in all the episodes). 'Perhaps you would prefer to move to a hotel closer to the sea?....or preferably in it!'

Fawlty Towers is absolutely hilarious, though some people wouldn't approve of some of the humour. Quote: "Did you watch that film, 'How to Murder Your Wife'? It was very good, I saw it six times." Without Manwell it really wouldn't be half as good. "(Clears throat) I know-a nothing." (Beams at Basil). "I know-a nothing."
