Can the one hundred years war be accepted without needing the apostrophe?

I agree re. multiple names for wars. Example: I typed "six-day war" and nothing happened. Then I typed "six day" and nothing happened. ... Bonus answers: Darfur, cold war. (What about the war on drugs? j/k)

I'm surprised none of the many wars in Afghanistan over the years made it into the quiz.

Good idea - poor execution. Too specific on the required answers and not consistant across answers (i.e. as Brandon says, French Revolution is correct, but American Revolution is not).

I wish Bolshevik Revolution worked, as I know a lot of people refer to the Russian Civil War as that. And Persian Gulf War doesn't count for Gulf War either.

I don't usually say this, but this list is incredibly European/Western-biased. No Sino-Japanese War?

@Robert Lo: SHUTUP We know this was western-biased. Those Eastern wars don't mean crap in terms of the course of history and the author of this quiz is American (or maybe English or something, I don't know, but certainly not Asian). Deal with it.

hmm. I like the quiz but find the focus to be off-putting. No wars between 146 BC and 1046 AD. No roman civil war. Few wars outside of America or Western Europe. No Congo War, which is the deadliest conflict of our time. It really reads like a list of wars someone thought of off the top of his head.

Quite a number of wars that are famous are missing, or here under very odd names. ElDavo, that was rude, and those wars did alter the course of our history as well. Why don't you go read a book called "Genghis Khan and the Making of the Modern World." Maybe you'll learn something new.

@Havok: They're two separate events. The Bolshevik Revolution was the overthrow of the Russian government in St Petersburg by the Bolsheviks, which took only a couple of days. The Civil War was the subsequent fighting between the Bolsheviks and those who opposed their take-over.

@Isaac: Nope. The Russian Civil War was a bona fide war that killed and displaced millions, distinct from the Russian Revolution, which was an almost bloodless coup.

Definitely needs to accept a LOT of alternate answers, such as 100 Years['] War/30 Years['] War (with digits rather than spelled out), "War in Iraq," "Second Gulf War," and "Operation Iraqi Freedom" for the "Iraq War," "Balkans Conflict/War" for "Yugoslav Wars," off the top of my head. Fun quiz, though.

What a Eurocentric quiz!!! People have been killing each other for ages in other parts of the world even before the Europeans came. Try Sino-Japanese, Boshin War, Mongol Invasions, Gallic Wars, Chinese Civil War, Moorish Invasion, Byzantine-Arab Wars, The Great Sioux War...

Great concept, not well executed [no pun intended]. 6 Day didn't work but Six Day did? Sometimes I needed to put "war" and sometimes not? Why not let "Civil War" fill in all the various civil wars, just as "Johnson" fills in both Presidents with that name? I typed in Civil War and War Between the States but it wanted "American Civil War", which is something we never call it? Some revisions would be much appreciated for a terrific game concept!!

Very inconsistent - sometimes you have to type the word "war", other times it does it for you. The selection is also inconsistent as some very obvious and serious wars have been left out. And it doesn't accept some common names. But an interesting quiz, nevertheless.

I like the idea of this quiz, but I don't see how it can be created correctly. There are too many famous wars to list in order to have an accurate and legitimate quiz. I don't know how you can use some but not the others.

Nitpicks: * Isn't the Peninsular War part of the Napoleonic Wars? (Actually, the same could be said for the War of 1812.) * I missed the Mexican War of Independence because I typed "War of Mexican Independence". Grrr.... * "Falkland War" and "Falkland Islands War" don't work.

@Lisa: *You* might never call it the American Civil War. But if I said `the Civil War', I'd be talking about the English Civil War. A Spaniard would be talking about the Spanish Civil War. A Greek or a Russian would be talking about the Greek or Russian Civil War. Everyone just says `the Civil War' to talk about their own but your civil war is not necessarily the same one as the next person's.

@Chad C.: It would be impossible to create a list of every war that has ever been fought. But this quiz doesn't ask for such a list; it doesn't even ask you to name every war you can think of. Rather, it asks for specific wars. Just like, for example, the famous deaths quiz asks for specific people and the dog breeds quiz asks for specific kinds of dog.

Well, I'll repeat the consensus complaint: this quiz is far from being comprehensive. While I understand a line has to be drawn somewhere because a truly comprehensive list is impossible, I don't think the line should be drawn separating the United States, Europe, and the Middle East from the rest of the world. People from outside these areas have lost their lives in combat as well and should be recognized just as equally.

The Iran-Iraq war threw me. Thought for sure that was the Soviet invasion into Afghanistan. And as others have said, not having the Spanish-American War is bad.

My neighborhood recently split up into two divisions. There has been an ensuing Civil War ever since, and no conclusion has been met. General Scott is fighting hard on the battlefront, but General McArthur is working hard to fight off the defense. Please send reinforcements. A keg of beer would be nice too.
