Waaaay harder than I thought, I was hoping some of the answers would be like "shoving object in butt" or something like that =)

One of the few sporcle quizzes that disappointed... most of the answers have so many variation... didn't know what to type. Maybe a disclaimer to specify they're looking for symptoms would help? idk

Non-specific pain?? Non-specific accident? And if you need to go the ER because of a cough, you probably think the world is ending if you get a fever.

What's the difference between shortness of breath and labored breathing?

Yes, you should mention the quiz is looking for symptoms, and not something that happened (except in the case of accidents). There I was trying to find all sorts of accidents that can happen...

More answers need to be accepted here. Way too specific as of now.

answers look to be way too specific. Interesting list but maybe too difficult to make into a quiz.

I was really excited for this one, and really disappointed when answers I had essentially written just didn't fit the wording. There definitely needs to be a note clarifying what the quiz expects as answers, or the quiz has to accept a lot more guesses. I even guessed things like "breathlessness" and didn't get either of the breathing-related ones. :/

A cough could be a sign of a very serious illness. People go to the ER because they can't afford health insurance. And if you've ever had a kid with a temperature of 105 in the middle of the night-the world IS ending.

pain should be accepted for symptoms, auto should be accepted for 13 and shortness of breath should work for 14

First quiz I took that I thought was total BS. Answers needed to be way too specific.

I can't believe broken bones didn't make the top 20, especially after all my contributions alone.

I tried car accident and auto accident. I didn't think it would be as formal as motor vehicle, but I can see why it is. That was crazy hard.

I agree with JulieD. I was typing in the causes of different accidents the whole time and didn't realize it was just looking for various symptoms... Oh well.

A lot of people go to the ER because they have no health insurance and the ER has to see you if you go in. That's why there's so many things that people go in for which don't seem like emergencies; they don't have anywhere else to go for medical advice.

My first guess was "free lollipops?" but I guess that's more family doctor-ish. My second guess was also, sadly, "something shoved up butt."

nthing the idea that the quiz instructions need to specify that they're looking for *symptoms*, as opposed to causes (fire, allergies, etc.)

Shouldn't abdominal pain be good enough for stomach pain? Typically the pain is more localized in the lower bowels than the stomach anyway...

What about depression? Labored breathing and shortness of breath are the same thing. If breathing is labored, then it means you area having trouble breathing. What about homeless people trying to escape the cold. I'm an EMT, I've seen it.

@Brian: I think shortness of breath is basically hyperventilation. Breathing more rapidly than you usually would. Laboured breathing is actual difficulty breathing.

Only got 9, I agree it should be a bit less specific I would have gotten closer to 14 if it accepted things like "ear pain" for earache. Then again I probably would've gotten that eventually, by the time I caught on to "ache" and "pain" time was almost up. I like the idea though.

Back ache didn't work for back pain...as so many have pointed out, this is way too specific! There should be more latitude on answering quizzes that are this general...

Does anyone know what a "leg symptom" is? I tried leg injury, broken leg, etc. I guess I should be happy with the 8 I got.

no, hyperventilation isn't labored...it's rapid breathing. eventually people who hyperventilate will pass out and their body will reset their breathing. people with trouble breathing that pass out tend not to wake up again

I figured burns in some form would show up on here. I was also hoping for "hypochondria" and "gross abuse of health insurance" as bonus answers.

I think broken anything needs to be counted :-) and bleeding instead of lacerations who the heck runs in the ER saying they have a laceration??

@Matt: You'd go to Maternity, not the ER. Personally, 'stomach pain' was shocking, since it's *less* accurate than 'abdominal pain'. It's almost never the stomach that causes abdo pain (ulcers are the only thing that spring to mind). 'Open wound' and 'bleeding wound' didn't work for 'lacerations', and I think 'broken leg' really should work for 'leg symptoms' (granted, it could be neuromuscular or a ligament, for instace, but even so).
