As an English football fan, I'm extremely embarrassed to say i only got 5! :(
Jan 31st, 2009 at 07:45 GMT
I'm Scottish and got them all. A very black day in my country so of course we know the team. Seriously though, a great team with 3 all-time greats in Banks, Moore and Bobby Charlton.
Jan 31st, 2009 at 08:00 GMT
Put the whole squad in! make it a little bit hard.
Jan 31st, 2009 at 08:06 GMT
As a German I don't really want to reminded of this!....still managed 4...through my tears!
Jan 31st, 2009 at 09:05 GMT
Could Jackie + surname be accepted to for the appropriate answer please? And how's about an additional ghost bonus answer for the trainer seeing as the manager's also listed?
Jan 31st, 2009 at 10:34 GMT
@Monoclinic: They could accept Jackie Surname but why were you typing first names in the first place? In almost all quizzes, surnames are acceptable on their own — typing the first name means that you lose an answer if you spell it wrongly or use an alternative that isn't accepted and you can never pick up freebies because you thought John Smith was in the team but it turns out that a completely different Smith was.

Great Quiz. How about an Italy 2006 World Cup Squad Quiz next?

I defy anyone who was born in '79, never lived in the UK, and pitifully knows little about football to even get one....yeah...I got nothing.

As a Yank, I'd like to complain that this is a very Anglocentric quiz. But I still got 6.
Jan 31st, 2009 at 16:38 GMT
@isaac - Considering that most sports quizzes on here are American-centric (?), I'm happy to see this.
Jan 31st, 2009 at 17:51 GMT
I got 4 : missed so many obvious ones (eg Hurst) Got stuck on the small ugly one (Stiles)
Jan 31st, 2009 at 19:01 GMT
englaish rugby fan got 4. also can both sides of the atlantic please stop complaining when there is a bias towards uk or usa. just dont do those ones and enjoy your own.
Jan 31st, 2009 at 19:28 GMT
@Mr. Orange: He was joking because on every single American-centric quiz someone complains that it's just that. He doesn't really want to complain, he's just being ironic.
Jan 31st, 2009 at 19:44 GMT
Yeah, fair enough. It's harder to tell when you're reading it and not hearing it =D. Anyways, got 10, was annoyed I didn't get no. 16, being a big football fan.
Jan 31st, 2009 at 20:15 GMT
i think isaac was kidding
Jan 31st, 2009 at 20:16 GMT
@Mr. Orange: Actually, complaints about American bias in American football/basketball/baseball/ice hockey quizzes are fairly rare. The complaints come in when a quiz that sounds like it's culturally-neutral from the title turns out to be impossible for anyone outside the US.
Jan 31st, 2009 at 20:57 GMT
@davidr: I didn't mention anything about complaints on American-centric quizzes, I just said that there are many such quizzes. Was that supposed to be aimed at ElDavo instead?
Jan 31st, 2009 at 21:05 GMT
I'm only 15 and live in America & I still got Bobby Charlton, who hasn't heard of him? Also got Moore and Stiles.
Jan 31st, 2009 at 21:37 GMT
@Mr Badman Browne - I agree the whole squad would be much more challenging. For me I would say only the colours of the Rainbow & the members of the Monty Python team are easier than this.
Jan 31st, 2009 at 21:58 GMT
@Mr. Orange: I was clarifying the remark ElDavo made to you. I could have been clearer, I guess.
Jan 31st, 2009 at 22:39 GMT
Possibly should change the title to winning team, since the actual squad was twice this size. Good quiz though. Would like to see similar for all the World Cup winning squads.

@Paul: What, even Uruguay 1930? (A competition in which, by the way, the USA reached the semi-final, where they lost 6-1 to Argentina.)
Feb 1st, 2009 at 17:24 GMT
1930 would be tricky ;-) I was thinking of Monti but on checking he lost that year with Argentina before winning in 1934 with Italy!
Feb 2nd, 2009 at 08:58 GMT
I got 0, and I'm ok with it
Feb 9th, 2009 at 00:58 GMT
Why not? ;-)
Feb 18th, 2009 at 17:57 GMT
This is the TEAM not the SQUAD. The other squad members were : 8 Greaves - 11 Connelly - 12 Springett - 13 Bonetti - 14 Armfield - 15 Byrne - 17 Flowers - 18 Hunter - 19 Paine - 20 Callaghan - 22 Eastham
Apr 9th, 2009 at 23:54 GMT
I was going to mention Jimmy Greaves, he was definately in the squad as theres a famous picture of him looking on as Hurst scored in the final.
May 21st, 2009 at 03:25 GMT
keep forgetting Wilson. Aargh.
May 22nd, 2009 at 17:33 GMT
Got 7 (missed Ball, Wilson, Peters, Hunt)... not bad for an American!
Jul 21st, 2009 at 03:23 GMT
Got 10 first time of trying, I don't think I would ever of thought of Roger Hunt though - the one I missed (probably because he played for Liverpool...go figure). (I support Everton!)
Aug 24th, 2009 at 18:10 GMT
only missed cohen!
Aug 31st, 2009 at 04:35 GMT
Killed it!! 28 seconds. Now, which one has a nephew who won a World Cup in another sport?
Sep 16th, 2009 at 10:53 GMT
DERedcoat: That'll be Number 2 then. It should either be the full squad, or a couple of minutes less time. I can't believe there aren't any Englishmen who can't recite the eleven names.
Sep 23rd, 2009 at 16:20 GMT
@DERedcoat - that'll be the one I always get first as a devoted fan of the 'other sport' ;o) I got 8 which I'm pretty darn chuffed with :o)
Oct 29th, 2009 at 01:38 GMT
I got all 11 but was annoyed to find that I'd missed a "bonus answer" I assume if I'd typed in Ramsey I'd have got the bonus but he wasn't in the team.
Nov 10th, 2009 at 17:49 GMT
All of them with 3:00 left on the clock. Didn't get bonus answer though. was that greaves?
Dec 4th, 2009 at 18:18 GMT
Took me 26 seconds - Gawd I must be getting old!
Jan 10th, 2010 at 10:39 GMT
This isn't the squad it's Ramsey's first XI selection. Should have to guess the first names of the two brothers...too easy!
Jun 26th, 2010 at 09:07 GMT
Got ten. Missed off Ray Wilson and to my shame almost forgot the captain Bobby Moore until about 30 seconds left. Good quiz.
