Definitely got Shelley Long with an Eva Longoria guess for Desperate Housewives.

I think Roseanne Barr (or even just Roseanne) should be an acceptable answer for 1993.

You need some alternates on the '93 winner. As I recall, by that point in her career she was using
only
her first name. You should also accept that first name with Barr and Barr on it's own.
I guess the Taxi winners were in part responsible for the establishment of "Best Guest Appearance". I wasted forever trying to remember who played Elaine!

Aniston won for Friends? She was my fourth guess for that entry, pretty amazing considering there were only three actresses (I tried both Cox and Arquette).

@Chaim: Anyone who saw the episode where Rachel was first told by Phoebe that she wasn't pregnant, then told she was could not deny her an Emmy. That was the episode submitted for Emmy consideration that year. A staggering rollercoaster of emotions that felt so real you forgot it was acting.

I loved Taxi, but I dont remember Ruth Gordon being a regular. From the looks of it, neither did anyone else.

How can the '77 & '88 winner possibly have different percentages? It's the same answer!
Side note: Odd that you can get 3 answers in a best actress category by entering the first names of men.

Got all of them except Damon and Gordon. Ruth Gordon was on one episode of Taxi and it was hilarious, but yes only one.

If you put in the 77 winner with her first name shortened to a nickname, it credits the 88 winner, but doesn't credit 77.

@rockgolf: if you put in the shortened version of her name (Bea) it works for 1988 but not 1977.

surprised that taxi got 2 emmys and neither time was marilu henner. i didn't see the episode with ruth gordon, but that sounds ridiculous to give an emmy based on a guest appearance. it's insulting to every other actress performing that year.

@Hal: Not too simple. About 48% of players still got only half the answers or less. The clues give you a fighting chance, otherwise only those who remember there even was a show called Kate & Allie have a hope.
Look at the results: 25% of people playing couldn't figure out what actress won for a lead role in The Mary Tyler Moore Show!

Who the f@ is Ruth Gordon? I tried and tried to think of the actress's name who played Elaine Nardo on Taxi, but couldn't. Then, when the answers are revealed it's Carol King and Ruth Gordon? I guess that evens things out with Mary Tyler Moore.

Carol Kane, juviejay; Carole King was a singer. Carol Kane played Simka Dahblitz-Gravas, which made her a major character, though probably not really a leading-actress sort. Ruth Gordon, in contrast, is probably best known as Maude in "Harold & Maude"; and yes, as alluded to above, she appeared in one episode, after which the Emmy people realized that maybe they should have a guest-appearance category.

@Tahnan: to be fair to Carol Kane, not only is she a leading-actress sort, she a Best Actress Oscar nominee for Hester Street!

Missed Ruth Gordon; kept trying variations of Henner or Perlman for that one. Missed Cathryn Damon - I knew both of the leads in Soap were Katherines/Cathryns, but could only remember Helmond (Soap was AWESOME, btw). Missed McClahanan due to copious spelling issues (almost missed America Ferrera for the same reason). Good quiz and just about the right amount of time.

Ruth Gordon did NOT win for lead actress, she won for GUEST ACTRESS. I don't think her name belongs on here.

@springmom: Nope, back then there was no separate Guest Actress category. You could win for a single or regular appearances.

It's interesting how Julia Louis-Dreyfus won and Emmy for the New Adventures of Old Christine, but not for Seinfeld.

Getty won an Emmy in 1988 for best supporting actress. And Julia Louis-Drefus did win an Emmy for Seinfeld, again it was for best supporting actress

@Andy B. Estelle Getty won for supporting actress in 1988 and was nominated for that award every year of the show's existence. I'm surprised more people didn't get Isabel Sanford, but then, how many remember that she got top billing on The Jeffersons?

Damn it, Rue McWhatever, wasted too much time trying to figure the spelling out. (Loved Blanche though) And when I saw Taxi there, I thought it was Marilu Henner for sure. What about a Supporting Actresses quiz?

I can't believe that Cathryn Damon won for Soap, but not Katherine Helmond. Helmond was the heart and soul of that show, and by far the funnier actress.
