That was way harder than I thought it would be... Great format for this quiz.

Just curious why the element we are filling in has to jump around each time rather than going in order. I found that this slowed me down significantly as I would have to locate the element it was asking me to type each time.

I can't believe I managed 117/118 but drew a complete blank on Ne. Really felt dumb when the answer came up.

i would say a good portion of the 4% that got them all owe their success to sporcle quizzes.

Does anyone agree that f.i. Argentum should count for Silver (Ag)?

@janwillemvandijk I do the same thing with Sodium (Na). My first instinct is to type Natrium every time.

By that same token, gold should be aurum, iron should be ferrum, lead should be plumbum, antimony should be stibium, etc. etc. I'll agree it should count as well, though. 117 on my first shot. I forgot that Pa was Protactinium.

@just a girl: the currently selected element is displayed to the left of the little textbox you type answers into.

aaaaAAAAAghhhhh I realized with 20 seconds left that I had missed gold and silver, but couldn't get around to them in time! It's funny. You may think that you don't know many, but as time goes on, you remember more and more. Especially those damned Y ones.

@ montecarlo: I would say a good portion of the 4% who got them all owe their success to having an open chemistry book next to them.

@MattJ and Jack: Or most likely, they're (we're) Sporcle veterans who mastered the periodic table quiz.

I can NOT spell Rg. I knew it, but couldn't get it right in time. Fun variation on the first periodic table quiz! A little easier, but still hard!

Grrr, I wanted to hit 60, but got stuck at exactly half. Missed a few somewhat easier ones and got none of the hardest forty.

*looks at handy periodic table post-quiz* Neodynium? Is my table wrong, or are there alternate spellings, or what? Personally I've never heard it pronounced with a distinct "m" sound, rather hearing nee-o-din-ee-um, not nee-o-die-mee-um.

@pdu: Because those are the Latin names. The quiz is in English.

@Cailen: Your table has a typo: it's neodyMium. `Neodynium' is a common error.

It's good that you can't type in any elements you want or else it would just be like the periodic table quiz

Nice quiz, Sporcle. A particularly nice (and easier) variation on the periodic table quiz, since the element symbol can usually remind one of the spelling of the element.

i underestimated how much harder typing these at random would be, after taking this (being a biochemistry major) i realized i remembered the elements more by their place on the table rather than by symbol.

Some other ones weren't accepted? I used "Wolfram" instead of "Tungsten" and it worked for me. Surely there must've been others. I missed Argon but got Berkelium. Go figure.
