I don't think I've ever heard of a country known as the "Repubilc" of the Congo.

Always interesting to see statistics like this. I knew that it was going to turn into a "name every African country I can think of" (plus a few) type quiz.

As has already been noted, "Republic" is spelled wrong for the Republic of the Congo

no it does not. That is because it is misspelled on the quiz.

Ah, that explains it...I KNEW I typed Republic of the Congo. I've seldom seen a quiz so continent-centric...wild.

Well it looks like at least 7% of the quiz-takers are taking it for a second time or are prone to making serendipitous typos.

This quiz should be called "name the African countries with non-functioning governments, plus a few more poor countries"

There should be a quiz that cross-references this data with highest proportion of the population that has HIV/AIDS. That's a frightening combo.

That's not really good. Impoverished nations, AIDs & Malaria rampant. Those countries need help, but they will never see the help they need.

I do wonder where all these extra I-Kiribati are going to go. Their country is sinking, isn't it?

oh dear. First quiz I've scored 0 on. I was blindly stabbing at random Americas, Asian and Oceanic countries, thinking "if I hit one, I'll know I'm in the right area". Gave up after three minutes and before I'd started on Africa!

Quizzes like these makes me sad. Little Uganda is already overpopulated with over 32 million people, and by 2050 they'll have almost 100 million. That's over 400 people per square kilometer.

@red_andy: It's definitely sinking. I mean, it's always been sinking. But it's still sinking. And the ocean is rising. Pretty bad combo for the i-Kiribati out there... though, I wonder if they took land changes in account when considering population growth?

I really thought UAE would be on here since their population has been doubling at the world's fastest rate for a while now (something like once every 8 years), with Dubai alone getting 10,000 new residents every month, but I guess that'll be coming to an end soon? Hard to squeeze more people in around all those cranes, I guess...

I doubt the doubling will ever happen, they have too many uncontrolled killer diseases, let alone yearly massacres and starvation, running through the African nations; the children are dying about as fast as replacements happen.

Now I am curious what countries have indeed doubled their population in the past forty years. We may predict a doubling by 2050, but who would have thought forty years ago so many Africans would have been wiped out by HIV/AIDS in the past three decades. So sad for that continent.

Bumped up Tapestry because I think she's right. With so many inherent problems on the continent, some countries will simply reach critical mass. Yes it's a morbid thought.

Funny how close this is to a "name the countries in Africa" quiz... or maybe not so funny...
