Uh-oh. Some fans are going to want to debate including the UNIT people.

I remember this being on occasionally as a child. I remember a bizarre theme song, an ugly curly-haired guy, and horribly made-up monsters. Is this still on? Must be a british thing. Perhaps I should search for it on BBC America the next time I'm stoned.

so glad I could get away with just the rank of UNITs leaDER (I'd have needed an extra 5 minutes to type in the whole name!) Happy memories of doctors 3 and 4 (my era!) Doctor 7 got lumbered with a couple of right losers!

I got 32/38. The frustrating thing was not being able to spell Kamelion properly and not being able to remember Nyssa's name, even though I had been to a convention featuring Sarah Sutton back in the '80s.

Hal_10000 - Some fans are going to want to debate it, perhaps. But the BBC includes them on their website. I went with anyone that's either on the current BBC list or who was previously listed in a BBC-sanctioned comprehensive list of companions (Hence including Sara Kingdom, despite the fact that the BBC no longer seems to recognize her).

The three UNIT people are not Companions. In fact, I was completely stumped on who was possibly missing for those three spots. Also, if you're including one-shot companions, Astrid should be included. She was invited to be a Companion. Great quiz, however! I got all but Sara Kingdom and the three UNIT members.

Wonderful quiz. I can't believe I forgot Captain Jack and that despite MANY tries I couldn't spell Adric.

Nezu Chiza - As I said, the BBC counts the UNIT companions on the website: http://www.bbc.co.uk/doctorwho/classic/episodeguide/companions/ . The comparable list for the new series doesn't include Astrid, so neither did I. The only dodgy one was Adam Mitchell, but as he actually traveled in the TARDIS across more than one episode, I was hard-pressed not to include him.

Ah well, the BBC has gone crazy then. I expect those three will easily be the most missed. Thanks for the explanation, I'll just blame the BBC :P

Astrid is listed on Wikipedia as a companion but I don't agree with that. I only answered Lethbridge-Stewart as I thought it could be a bonus (perhaps all three UNIT people should be). If you're including the Brig as a companion he appeared with the 2nd Doctor down to the 7th (bar the 6th). Also I read an article about twenty years ago in Dr Who Magazine about companions and Sara Kingdom was indeed listed as one then

Who thinks we should have a Doctor Who monsters quiz, with assorted monsters from more than one episode.

24/38, not bad since I've hardly seen any classic episodes (don't worry, I'm working on it!) I definitely think we need a monsters quiz on here!

I would say that The Brigadier and Sgt Benton belong in this list far more than Grace. As we all know, Paul McGann doesn't count. ;-)

I put in "Mike" and it wouldn't take it, but it would take the rank? Also, "Sara" wasn't enough for Sara Kingdom, and I couldn't remember her last name. Just that you probably included the "other Sara." Shouldn't the first names of all companions be enough?

Really fun quiz, but I haven't gotten to watching the old Doctor Who episodes yet. I'm still slowly working on the new ones, but I got all of the people in the new Doctor Who plus Sarah Jane and K-9 because they were in the new episodes.

Shouldn't Astrid Peth, Lady Christina De Souza, Jackson Lake, Rosita, Wilfred Mott, Adelaide and arguably Jenny, Jackie Tyler, River Song and Sally Sparrow be bonus answers as while they aren't full companions their recurring or one-off appearance is considered an appearance by a companion.

Agree with orhan94. They should also be included. :D Yay for including the Captain! I need to watch more of the old Doctor Who though.

Have so many problems with a list of Doctor Who 'companions'! Mainly because there are no defined rules as to what makes a companion. Someone who travels on the TARDIS? Well Liz Shaw never does but she has more to do with the Doc than most of Tennant's assorted friends! I could go on (Grace, Sara Kingdom, the Brig, Jackson, Charley Pollard...) I shall stop now ha ha!

Only one I had trouble with was Katarina... I was thinking, "some girl with a K name that sacrificed herself to save the Doc in an episode hardly anyone has ever seen..." Kara? Katrina? I guess if Sara Kingdom and Adam count, then it's legitimate.

Now time to add Amy Pond! Also Rory (don't know his surname) is going to join them, River Song possibly becomes a proper companion too.

Spent ages trying "Benson" before I finally remembered it was "Benton"... But yeah, we definitely need Amy now. And Wilfred and Astrid ought to qualify if Sara Kingdom does. And, of course, then there's Bernice Summerfield, Frobisher, Charley Pollard, Fitz etc etc... :-)

Sare Kingdom should not be listed as a companion. She is only in one story. If she is included, then every person who travels in the TARDIS in one story only should be included, such as Duggan in "City of Death." As well Kamelian is not a companion, he was more like a prisoner on the TARDIS. Another suggestion, if the companions from the novels are going to be excluded, perhaps this should be mentioned in the instructions? Thank you.

If you know enough to get all (or most) the answers, then it's not difficult to discern what counts and what doesn't (i.e. only TV appearances, and the "canon" list, which includes Sara Kingdom). Get over it.

Duggan deserves to be a companion, if only for his ability to knock down walls. ;)

The Terrestrial Index lists UNIT personnel as guest stars rather than companions. And Lethbridge-Stewart was a Colonel when the Second Doctor first met him.

Surely Sarah should work for Sarah Jane Smith. It's only in the New Series and Sarah Jane Adventures that she starts preferring to use Sarah Jane.

It's obviously a can of worms, but loads of those shouldn't really count as a companion. Sara Kingdom is no more a companion than Sabetha. Adam, Kamelion, Jack, the UNIT crew, even Grace. I just see them as acquiantances rather than companions.

Since I haven't answered that in a year or two, I used the official BBC list of companions here, if I recall, though I may have added one or two who have appeared in other officially published lists. :)
