	I think its typically "Tyrrhenian Sea" now days, so I think that should be an acceptable answer. Switzerland would be a nice bonus. Ireland and the Caspian Sea have been visible on various boards as well. What a great quiz. I found a place to play online recently, playdiplomacy.com. It really takes me back.

	I don't know whether to be proud or ashamed of myself that I got all of these. I still play online now and again, but it's been many years since I played it for real. There's something missing when you don't have to look out that Austria might see you sneaking off to meet with Italy.

	shploom if you'd looked a little closer you would've noticed that also Budapest is not in Austria, Syria and Armenia are not in Turkey and Prussia is not in Germany, its not meant to be wonderfully geographically accurate

	@lulubelles: Actually, the map for Diplomacy is meant to represent pre-WWI Europe, at which time Prussia was indeed in Germany. Budapest wasn't in Austria, but Austria and Hungary were united in the Dual Monarchy. Similarly, Syria and Armenia weren't in Turkey, mainly because Turkey didn't yet exist; rather Syria, Armenia, and Asia Minor were all part of the Ottoman Empire. The issue in this case is not geographic accuracy so much as that the publishers used shorthand labels for the great powers: "England" for the United Kingdom, "Austria" for Austria-Hungary, and "Turkey" for the Ottoman Empire.

	@Frogodo: Tunisia is not out of order; Switzerland is, and the reason why Switzerland is out of order is that it is a bonus answer. (Switzerland is not actually occupiable.)

	I agree with Sparky, UK would have been a more logical shorthand. However I'm guessing they took England for artistic licence, UK doesn't really sound like the name of a powerful nation. England has connotations to the past, when England was relatively powerful. I'm not condoning their use of it though. It pains me to type in Clyde and Edinburgh. Technically, pre-WWI, Wales was part of England, the national status of Wales has increased since then, Cardiff was declared capital of Wales in the 1950s and the border with England was officiated in the 1960's. Despite the Scottish discrepancy, the quiz is accurate and correct, as far as I'm aware, since it's based on a game, not real life.

	so much for the auld alliance, Hugh! In defence of Sam, the Quiz is accurate insofar as it is about the game. Its the game that is wrong. "England" should be "British Empire" (and, as such, should include Ireland as the game is set pre-1922), "Turkey" should be "Ottoman Empire" and "Austria" should be "Austro-Hungarian Empire". I could go on but I can't be mithered

	Okay, no one is understanding the organization of this quiz. There are initially seven players in a game of Diplomacy, England being one of them. The quiz is organized based on the territories each player controls at the beginning of the game, not which country those territories are in. Thus it also has the Unassociated and Sea categories, which no one controls at the beginning of the game. Therefore, the quiz isn't geographic; it's based on who owns what at the beginning of a Diplomacy game. The quiz is accurate; you've just never played Diplomacy.

	Good grief Hugh! If you read what I actually wrote and anything I've wrote about the UK on other geography quizzes you'll know I'm well aware of the current state of the UK and its history. I NEVER said that Scotland and Wales ARE part of England, I said that Wales WAS but no longer is, and that Scotland NEVER WAS part of England. The quiz IS accurate because it's based on A GAME, NOT REAL LIFE i.e. in the game one of the teams is called "England" in real life it was the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland. You are arguing that the game, "Diplomacy", is inaccurate, and in that you are correct, as I explained earlier. I am arguing that this quiz is accurately portraying the game. I'm well aware that some people believe everyone from the UK to be English, and they are wrong.

	awesome quiz. ive been hoping someone would make this one. one suggestion though: maybe you should change england to britain since thats just as common in the game ond that way people who've never played might not get so angry

	Sorry to step back into the England debate, but you must realise that it is not only common in America (where this game was invented) to refer to the UK (indeed the British Empire) and 'England,' but also to refer to it as such in early 20th century Britain. For instance the scotsman David Hume's 1754 book 'The History of England' is about the entirety of Great Britain.
