Got 15, can't believe some of the ones I missed though! And did Johnny Cash really get that song from NIN?! Not the other way around?

Funny enough, I've been considering submitting this very quiz for the past two weeks. Incidentally, I have a list ready to go should you decide to make a sequel, but I'm sure the comments section will be FILLED over the next 12 hours with songs "you guys missed". :)

In addition to the "you missed this song" comments, there should be a few "so-and-so also covered this song" comments, like Wall of Voodoo also covering "Ring of Fire" and Smashing Pumpkins also covering "Landslide." :+)

Otis Redding also covered "Satisfaction" (so did Britney Spears, but let us never speak of that again).

Yesterday? Or maybe there needs to be a quiz of songs covered a bajillion times.

(feat. Jules)? You've got to be kidding me. I was thinking Jules was some rapper I've never heard of. If it had said Gary Jules I would have gotten it in a second. He's the guy singing it after all.

For the songs that were also covered by other people, no problem. But if, as Tim Harrod says, the same cover artist also covered a different song by the same original artist, that should probably be made an alternate answer or removed from the quiz. I don't know either of those Aerosmith covers so I don't know if one of them is 50X more popular than the other...

Great quiz! One quibble -- "Always on My Mind" was originally by Elvis Presley; Willie Nelson's version was just a cover. The Pet Shop Boy's version originated when they participated on a tv about Elvis' death, and they covered it for that show.

I got most of them right, but I think there's only 4 songs for which I'm really familiar with both the original and cover. Of those, I'd say the original was superior 3 times, and the cover once. The Dylan original is very good but the Hendrix cover is on another level. Marley blows away the emasculated Clapton cover. I think CCR has a slight edge over Ike and Tina. Andnow I forgot what the 4th one was. What do other people prefer? (This may cause a generational schism.)

Always on my Mind is actually originally Elvis, not Willie.
Esteban:

Actually it's originally Brenda Lee. However, Willie's is the most famous, I'd argue.

I much prefer Willie's version! In many of these cases, I've heard the original but not the remake, or I've heard both of them. I don't always prefer the original, but I usually do.

Esteban beat me to it, Brenda Lee beat them both. There are so many good ones not on this list, I can't wait for the sequel! You could probably make a list just on Dylan covers (most of which are more famous than the his version)

I'm surprised more people didn't know the Johnny Nash one since I'm hearing it all day every day on the radio. I got 18. Because I'm old.

Good quiz, I guess there must be loads more potential songs that fall into this category, so rather than the usual listing the ones I know, can we have a sequel maybe please?

It took I'm Down for Aerosmith, which is good, and should take Like A Rolling Stone for Dylan/Hendrix.

I expect that a sequel is on the way, because there're alot of songs that they omitted. The only song I'll name here is one that I think was pretty famous when done originally and as a remake: "Knocking on Heaven's Door" Originally Bob Dylan, covered by Guns n' Roses.

One for the sequel, "Act Naturally" by Buck Owens, covered by the Beatles, and Ringo later as a solo.

I got 12. I got to hung up on the Willie Nelson/Elvis/Pet Shop Boys song........I could have sworn it was "Falling In Love". I looked it up and it turned out to be UB40 and not the PS Boys.

these are typically referred to as "covers" and you could easily do at least 3 or 4 more quizzes of just cover songs.

Does the Chili Peppers cover of Love Rollercoaster also have a death scream in it like the Ohio Players version ;) I know it's an urban legend, but I still can't listen to that song!

20/32. I knew who sang the originals of all the songs, but never knew some were covered. Originals are the best pretty much always. LOL at Celine Dion, you could make a quiz just about her and all the songs she's covered. I do like her original songs though.

You know, I'm usually one who knows when a mega-popular song is a cover, but I'm really shocked to find that Soft Cell's one hit was a cover.
