Typing J-League (or J League) would be enough for the Japan option

Loved the quiz, but should have to be more specific with Russian and Egyptian leagues. Should have added Portugal and Greek leagues. (any bonuses?)

I came to specifically type in "NFL" (because the main page said i'd find 'no love here') and nothing happened. Where's the no love? ;)

Egyptian and Russian Premier Leagues as well as the Brazilian Serie A should be more specific. I only know four leagues on here, but got credit for 7 because of those 3.

I usually hate it when people come in and say "why not x or y" on quizzes but there's a finite number of soccer leagues out there, I think a lot more could have been added without making the overall difficulty too oppressive. Basically, if you know the Chinese and Turkish leagues, you'd probably know the Mexican, Scottish and Czech leagues too, and if not, you might at least get one you know.

Why is FĂștbol Profesional Colombiano not acceptable as answer for the Colombian top league despite it being the answer that appears? That makes no sense!

Great idea for a quiz, there should be one for the reigning champions of these leagues (and others) too.

Well, call me a pedant and give me all your red arrow lovin' but the NFL
is
the top football league in the US and Canada. It's a different kind of football from that played in the other countries' top leagues but the quiz doesn't specify association football. Likewise, the Australian Football League (Aussie rules) is much bigger than any of the association football leagues down there.

Let's stick to one sport eh Dave? Otherwise we'll have to figure out what the top game called football is in that country AND THEN remember its league's name. I had trouble enough getting 12 on this quiz, without that added complication!

La Liga refers to the whole Spanish League. The top division is called Primera Liga.

In Argentina it is Primera A not Primera Division. There is a Primera A and Primera B (the second tier). Saludos.

Won't accept "Futbol Profesional Colombiano", which seems odd. Should be more league included IMO. Why not have top divisions for places like Mexico, Sweden, Korea, India, South Africa, Portugal, Belgium, Ireland, Northern Ireland, Wales, Scotland etc?

@Goonerlover66 and Nick: It is accepted but, at the moment, you have to include the accent, as they forgot to make the un-accented version an alternative.

I think the implication of davidr's comment that everyone seems to hate is that they should specifically say "association football" somewhere, rather than just football, not that Australian Football League or NFL should be accepted.

"Premier League" granting three answers is a bit much, isn't it? I kind of assumed I would have to type FA Premier League, but instead I got Russia and Egypt without having the faintest idea that their leagues were named as such.

I was convinced 'Ligue Une' was the right league for France, I think this should be accepted, as that's what it will be called quite often.

Especially as 'Ligue Une' is accepted, but 'League One' isn't - either the English should be accepted or full translation, not half and half!

@davidr: I kept typing it to no avail, the only reason I got the answer in the end was because I used it's sponsorship name: Mustang Cup.

davidr: It says football. Not American football, not rugby football. For a man of knowledge you should creep out of your sportshole and recognize that there's only one sport called football for real in the world. And it's the only sport that can be called football. Hell, the best kickers in NFL are European fellas who went to college in America and weren't good enough to play football but they learned how to kick a ball while playing.

@Addisnow: As you say, it says `football'. Association football is the major form of football played in the world but American football, Australian rules football and rugby football (league and union) are also forms of football. The quiz should either specify association football or accept the top league for other forms of football for the few countries where association football is not the predominant form of the game.

@Art Vandeley: Why would `the Brits be pissed' at EPL being accepted? The league is just for England, not the whole of the UK, so it's correct, in this case, to call it English. The Welsh, Scots and Northern Irish have their own leagues and their own national teams. (A couple of Welsh teams also play in lower leagues in England but there aren't any in the Premier League.)

This is what is definetely interpretted as 'football' internationally, not much more to it really. Although i think the premiership should be a suitable answer for the premier league...

I remember as a kid in school one of the teachers taking the p**s out of us , by asking what is the difference between the League of Ireland and the Irish League ? And yes they exist ! Those who know the answer get a free tour of Belfast's graveyards or Bunratty Castle ;)?

@david to people in the UK it is "The Premiership" or "THE Premier League". Just like it is "THE Open Championship" and not "The British Open" in golf. I know many brits that cringe at the acronym "EPL".

@Dubliner, League of Ireland is the league for the Republic & the Irish league is for the North. Although been Irish & supporting a LOI club I would know that!
