I suspect I would have done better if I lived on the East Coast. Most of our county names in California are in Spanish. P.S.: The plural of county is "counties."

@springmom: Love your Igniz avatar. Anyway, this was fairly simple, as quizzes go, but I'm not one to complain. XD

Got Clay, Wayne, and Grant. Surprised that Orange wasn't on this list.

I live in Georgia, which has 159 counties. Most of the top 15 are in the state. Good quiz.

Would love to see: most populous counties, least populous counties (difficult!?), biggest counties, smallest counties, rainiest, coldest, etc, etc, etc!! :) Love the sporcle!

I didn't get a single one, but it was still interesting to see what counties are around the country. I'm in Arizona, and we don't have any of these. Most of our counties are Native American names... Still, anything you can learn from is a worthwhile experience.

Really surprised that Lake didn't make it; there are tons of Lake Counties. Polk, also. Patrick: Most populous is semi-doable. Least populous would be friggin impossible.

There are 12 counties named "Lake" and 12 counties named "Polk". Both are tied for 18th place on the list along with "Lee," "Marshall," "Douglas," and "Adams". Only 8 counties are named "Orange". I suggested this quiz. I really appreciate the minds that be at Sporcle putting it together.

Pardon me if you disagree, but I thought this quiz sucked. I like geography quizzes, but this isn't a subject I think/care about. Also, and maybe this had something to do with it as well, I've never been in a single county named any one of these, and I've been to about 25 states. Live on the east coast, by the way, and it didn't help.

I only got one (Wayne) 'cause I grew up near Wayne County in MI -- didn't even occur to me to start trying presidents' names!

I got all the ones Louisiana has around me. Jefferson Parish, Washington Parish... I also remembered Madison and Franklin Parish, and then I took a shot in the dark with Lincoln and Monroe. And that is how I failed miserably at this quiz.

None of the counties on this list are in my state either. Then again, we only have 3 counties...

It's time for the Texas County quiz!! 254 chances to show your geographic knowledge dominance. Of the 10 least populated counties, 3 are in Texas and 4 are in Nebraska.

The only one I got was Montgomery. Only county in the D.C. area with one of these names. Also, I was surprised Springfield wasn't on here (but then I remembered that the Springfield around here is actually a part of Fairfax County).

Lunza: I also live in California so I had no idea which ones were "common" (although I know there is an orange county in Florida) luckily I caught on to the "historical figures" theme.

CA here too. I don't think California has one county on that list! I felt the same way with the Common Street Names quiz. I did mediocre, to say the least. Mainly because my brain and my typing skills are not working today!!

@eric & Salukimars: I am also led to believe than Eric lives in Delaware: New Castle, Sussex, and Kent counties are the only three. I spent my early childhood in New Castle.

East Coast folks are spoiled on here - those eastern states have way too many counties. Everything east of Texas does, really.

I tried Orange because of NY and California and I figured there were more, but I guess not enough, and Suffolk for NY and Massachusetts which was probably silly.

@AhLeah: Very few of these are on the East Coast, as most counties have historical English names. I would guess that most of these would be in the middle and northwest.

You need to live in a state that wasn't an English or Spanish colony to do well in this quiz.

Seven of these are primarily for Revolutionary War generals: George Washington, Benjamin Lincoln, Richard Montgomery, Francis Marion, Anthony Wayne, Joseph Warren, and Nathaniel Greene.
