I'm no techie, so I guessed on VGA, and *totally* guessed on PNG... and got them both right! So, did the right answer bubble up from my subconscious memory? Or did I just get lucky? ONLY THE SPORACLE KNOWS.

VGA originally stood for Video Graphics Array; that should be an answer.

Wow, this quiz just shows me how much I don't know about computers. Much less than I thought I did! I guess I just take those acronyms for granted.

Why do I know ROM and not RAM? It's scary that I've never even considered what most of these stand for. URL in particular - never crossed my mind that that actually stands for something.

PEBCAK, for those who didn't get it above, stands for "Problem Exists Between Chair and Keyboard," and is an old technician joke.

Just a linguistic note: an acronym is a word made from the initials, "ROM" for example, where as an initialism is just the letters read out individually, such as "SQL".

Maybe Im old but I think Bauds per second should be allowed for BPS. Yes its not the same as Bits per second but for us old people who had modems measured in bauds it would be nice.

@onwardknave: I was always partial to calling them ID-10-T errors, or L-Class User Errors. Either way, the effect is the same.

GPS: 1 baud is 1 byte per second, so "bauds per second" would be bytes per second per second, which is clearly meaningless. :-p I got -3 here (got stuck trying Dynamic Name Server (or Service), always thought it was Page Description (or Definition) Format (or File), and had no clue on ASP).

some of these i see/use every day and have never given a second thought to what they stand for. URL, for example, has pretty much become a word in itself.

@Kinitawowi: Bytes per second per second isn't meaningless — it's rate of change of transfer speed. Not something most people would ever want to talk about but not meaningless.
