Now that Cary Grant and Katharine Hepburn are on this edition, people calling out omissions are just being nitpicky.
Sep 30th, 2009 at 05:22 GMT
I think the 'Results - Most Missed' page is broken, unless my computer's just throwing a fit. In other news, I have very poor recognition of classic actors.
Sep 30th, 2009 at 05:27 GMT
I knew a lot of the names when they came up but I would never have guessed some of those from their faces
Sep 30th, 2009 at 05:30 GMT
Oh, God, I got four. I feel so...bad.
Sep 30th, 2009 at 05:35 GMT
Grace Kelly is one of the most beautiful human beings I've ever seen.
Sep 30th, 2009 at 05:36 GMT
Makes me sad that so few got Buster Keaton. One of the best physical actors of all time. His stunts are beyond anything you'll see in film now a days.
Sep 30th, 2009 at 05:38 GMT
I actually think my visual memory must have gotten better; I used to think of it as bad (compared to other types of memory, anyway), but I found that I was able to come up with most of these names: I just missed Lena Horne (and damn, I recognized her, but I couldn't figure out who she was) and Robert Preston (whose name is actually only vaguely familiar). I can definitely see this being a hard quiz, especially if you're not that familiar with "old Hollywood" - I was proud of myself for getting Keaton and Karloff (who do at least have distinctive looks; that helped).
Sep 30th, 2009 at 05:41 GMT
Barbara Stanwyck is my favorite actress. It's a little disappointing that so few people know who she is. I love classic Hollywood quizzes and would definitely like to see more.
Sep 30th, 2009 at 05:43 GMT
Boris Karloff looks like Abe Vigoda.
Sep 30th, 2009 at 05:45 GMT
@SanityLapse: I think part of it is that Keaton
such a physical actor -- not as much time is spent focused on his face in his movies.
Sep 30th, 2009 at 05:46 GMT
cottb 128 beat me to it
Sep 30th, 2009 at 05:46 GMT
@MRL: But he's called The Great Stone Face!
Sep 30th, 2009 at 06:33 GMT
@smacaskill: I wonder if the low percentage for Stanwyck is the spelling of her name. I knew for sure it was her, but it took me a few tries to figure out I was misspelling her last name.
Sep 30th, 2009 at 06:39 GMT
I thought Karloff was Abe Vigoda...LOL!

Joan Crawford has risen from the grave Christina... Mother's Home Christina... Come to Mother
Sep 30th, 2009 at 06:57 GMT
Took me a while to get Olivia de Havilland. If only it accepted "Melanie Wilkes."
Sep 30th, 2009 at 07:06 GMT
I entered Abe Vigoda too..... I actually entered it twice because I was so sure it was him.
Sep 30th, 2009 at 07:56 GMT
@Guinevere - that's because he's the guy who does the credit crunch news on the bbc :) on another note - i know less about black and white film faces than i should and madonna's vogue didn't fare me too well here.
Sep 30th, 2009 at 08:00 GMT
Why no Sophia Loren?
Sep 30th, 2009 at 08:25 GMT
Ok, so I'm probably showing my age here....but Laurence Olivier....gorgeous! And he is the only Mr Darcy IMHO!
Sep 30th, 2009 at 08:39 GMT
@ bethannie - You beat me to it; he is soooooo gorgeous! Did better than I thought I would on here tho will admit to randomly guessing a good few! (And am annoyed with the ones I missed as they're among the most guessed!)
Sep 30th, 2009 at 08:57 GMT
I forgot to mention this in my last comment but does anyone else think Spencer Tracy looks like Kirk Douglas in that picture?
Sep 30th, 2009 at 09:00 GMT
I don't mind that I missed Robert Preston, but how could I not have recognized Peter O'Toole?? *kick* But I think 22 still lets me hold my classic film loving head high. Fun quiz!! =)
Sep 30th, 2009 at 10:00 GMT
Yay, got them all! Now if you put todays younguns up there...who the hell is chayce crawford?
Sep 30th, 2009 at 10:37 GMT
Good quiz, missed a few I should have got:- Harry Belafonte I know more as a singer than actor but Laurence Olivier with that chin dimple I just couldn't get Kirk Douglas out my head!
Sep 30th, 2009 at 10:53 GMT
the "Y" in Barbara Stanwyck kept me from a coveted perfect score. Maybe in the sequel?
Sep 30th, 2009 at 11:40 GMT
Peter O'Toole - The unluckiest man in Hollywood.
Sep 30th, 2009 at 13:06 GMT
What? Jack Lemmon without Walter Matthau? Blasphemy!
Sep 30th, 2009 at 13:41 GMT
No one ever had or ever will the Face and Class of MR. CARY GRANT. "An Affair to Remmeber" says it all WOW !
Sep 30th, 2009 at 13:49 GMT
I got Robert Preston because I grew up watching "The Music Man." Now that I think about it, that's the only movie of his I can name. Thanks for the sequel, Sporcle
Sep 30th, 2009 at 14:33 GMT
hmm I wrote Olivia deHavilland and it didn't accept it. Did it have to be 3 words?
Sep 30th, 2009 at 16:12 GMT
@cottb128: Abe Vigoda - still not dead!
Sep 30th, 2009 at 16:33 GMT
love this quiz. @LTH, Robert Preston was in Victor Victoria (1982) with Julie Andrews. Also the two starred in SOB (a Blake Edwards movie which came out in 1981).
Sep 30th, 2009 at 16:59 GMT
Ah! I can't believe I missed Karloff! I guess I'm just not used to seeing him outside of his Frankenstein make up.
Sep 30th, 2009 at 18:02 GMT
O'Toole would've been much easier if for people, I think, if it weren't such a young photo of him. I got him, but not right away. I had the same problem with Olivier, who I see as older in my mind's eye.
Sep 30th, 2009 at 19:07 GMT
Much better than the last one for pure virtue of no Ronald Reagan.
Sep 30th, 2009 at 19:10 GMT
Huge female crush on Gracy Kelly, happy to see her here. Also thrilled to see Grant, Hepburn, Tracy and Poitier made it this time around.
Sep 30th, 2009 at 19:12 GMT
ahh I hate when my eyes skip over the ones I know, it happens every quiz. Sorry Sidney :(
Sep 30th, 2009 at 20:01 GMT
@zigra: Are you thinking these are all dead people? They're not. Or are you just amazed that Abe's not dead? I am a little.
Sep 30th, 2009 at 20:55 GMT
Wow, the scene in "Mad Men" this season where someone says that Betty looks like Grace Kelly = no joke.
