The military government moved the capital of Myanmar from Yangon to Naypyidaw in late 2005-early 2006.

Nope--in November 2005 the capital was moved to a planned city that is closer to the geographical center of the country.

Lance Armstrong rode for Team Astana in this summer's Tour de France. Astana is also the name of the National Bank of Kazakhstan. Think it's weird that the USA's national hero, someone who once rode for the United States Postal Service and the Discovery Channel, was sponsored by the government-run bank of a country that we don't even have good relations with?

Lots of people are doing very well on this quiz. Perhaps ten minutes is too leisurely?

@RandallPinkston, I think we've all just done the world capitals quiz a few too many times. If you want to make this harder, maybe you could try limiting the number of wrong answers?

Yeah, there was way too much time here. I had enough time to do all the ones I knew then go through the others methodically and still have nearly 2 minutes left.

@Pyrophorus: Papua New Guinea is generally considered to be part of Oceania. At least, that's how it's categorized on the continent quizzes.

ok, so i'm confused. world capitals uses kotte for sri lanka, but capitals of asia still uses colombo. now this quiz uses colombo as well. why is it that sri lanka has multiple capitals that are accepted on other quizzes but other countries, like south africa, only accept one? and how do the admins pick which to use?

Just wondering how Russia is included in this quiz yet Turkey isn't, especially considering Turkey's capital is in Asia whilst Russia's isn't..... Correct me if I'm wrong please

The fact that I can start typing Tajikistan despite having not consciously processed the capital yet points quite firmly to the idea that I've spent far too much time on Sporcle.

There was an incident in 2006 involving two naked and angry Kazakhstani nationals fighting and running wild through an American hotel. Since then US/Kazakhstan relations have been shaky at best.

@iceman1731 I assume that those who missed Singapore and Kuwait didn't get to them yet as they probably spent way too much time trying to spell the infinite variations of Kyrgystan, Turkemenistan and Tajikistan (like I almost did)

I like this one way more than the one that's the other way 'round (given the country, name the capital) purely because of the spellings!! I can never remember how many As there are in Ulaanbaatar, for example! It's a good way to learn which pairs go together without worrying about spelling :o)

I would imagine that anyone who didn't get Singapore or Kuwait didn't get that far because they got all the -stans first and either ran out of time due to spelling issues or gave up and are currently lying down in a darkened room ;o)

My geography skills are so Eurocentric limited it's not even funny my sheer pronunciation of some of these capitals was downright poor but I squeezed by with 28/48 *shrug* Ironically enough I knew most of these cities from the what I remembered from the news...hmmm.

I thought Russia is considered a country of Europe, because its capital, Moscow, and most of its population are west of the Urals. But, I still include it in Asia as well. Georgia, Armenia, and Azerbaijan are usually considered part of Asia. about half of Kazakhstan is in Europe, but it is also considered a country of Asia.

@snowman: As far as I can see, Armenia is usually classed as being entirely within Asia; Georgia and Azerbaijan have small amounts of European territory but are mostly within Asia. But nothing like half of Kazakhstan is in Europe. Only the areas to the north and west of the Ural River are considered to be European and, eyeballing a map, I'd estimate that to be 5% of the territory at most.
