I'm looking forward to sequels where the cities are less obvious, eg. Nickelback.

Great quiz, can't wait for sequels. Good to see Men Without Hats getting some love. Safety Dance rules!

Past history of Sporcle quizzes would indicate that having Nickelback as an example would not go over too well. Nevertheless, I found this quiz quite enjoyable though it also revealed my arrogance, as I was for some reason just positive that Men Without Hats was Scottish. Must've been the Safety Dance video.

I knew what countries bands like AC/DC, Barenaked Ladies, etc were from and guessed the major cities. It paid off.

fun quiz, very fun. glad my favorite band (RHCP) made the list. gotta admit I typed Grand Rapids Michigan at first for them since Anthony kiedis hailed from there before he moved to LA

Lots of fun. Typed "Houston" for ZZ Top to save time, but I was secretly wondering whether "Arlen, Texas" would be accepted. :-)

I went through nearly the whole Bundesliga for the Scorpions but didn't get the right answer. That had to be the only major German city I didn't guess. Oh well.

@Yojimbo: I did the exact same thing, but when I got to Hanover, I spelled it the German way with two n's.

@nut - I did the same thing! Though I realized my mistake before time ran out. Unfortunately, it didn't help, as I had no idea where Men without Hats were from.

My approach to this quiz was one-quarter knowledge, one-quarter educated guesses, and one-big-honking-half lucky guesses. I clued in about halfway that guessing the city venues from Rock Band yielded some correct answers!

If Sporcle were a purely British site, Oasis would no doubt be right behind the Beatles in second place as you must have your head buried underground to not know where they hail from.

@Freddie - I agree. I was surprised that under 50% of people knew where they were from. A good quiz overall and one that challenged without being impossible.

Managed to get 12 right through a lot of inspired guesswork! Though I did kick myself over a few that I missed (tried New York and San Francisco for several options apart from the correct ones). Great idea for a quiz though!

I read "Men at Work" instead of "Men Without Hats" and spent way too long guessing every Australian town I could think of.

@Musegal: Devon is not a city. I believe Muse are from the town of Teignmouth which has a population of about 15,000 and is not really likely to be remembered even by Muse fans.

@Jimmy: I would agree that some of the non-US ones are more significantly associated with their band (Beatles, Oasis), but how could you not even try playing the "Let's name big US cities for these bands" game.

I went through every German and English cities I could think of for the Scorps and Def Leppard, respectively, but came up empty. And I've seen both bands live, so had to smack myself in the head when the answers were revealed. Also, Brooklyn should be accepted for the Beasties...

But Brooklyn isn't its own city. And I recall at least one Beastie Boys song where Ad-Rock says "I'm from Manhattan."

@Unidentifiedkiwi: You're right that Brooklyn isn't its own city. However "New York, New York, USA" usually means "Manhattan." "New York City" would be fine.

Oh! How embarrassing. I didn't know Def Leppard came from Sheffield (my Uni city). Arctic Monkeys I would have got.
