	Being majority owned is not the same thing as a "brand". Mazda is majority owned by Ford, but it is not entirely owned nor a brand of Ford. Same goes for Kia and Daihatsu.

	Daimler is the company that makes Mercedes. Chrysler used to be owned by them, but they sold it off a couple of years ago. No Subaru or Isuzu, though?

	i think its a little unfair to count citroen and peugeot as the same for this quiz when you allow daimler and chrysler to be separate. the company is called DaimleyChrysler and are owned by Mercedes Benz. plus i havent seen a car under the brand 'dainler' sold in the UK at least in my life. perhaps davidr can clear some things up for me

	@jack: As johnlk said, Daimler (formerly Daimler-Chrysler, formerly Daimler-Benz) sold off Chrysler in 2007. They make cars under the Mercedes Benz and Smart brands but have nothing to do with the British Daimler Motor Company, which became part of Jaguar. Peugeot bought 90% Citroën in the 1970s to form a company that was then called PSA and is now properly called PSA Peugeot Citroën.

	@johnlk: The detailed source used for this quiz is http://oica.net/wp-content/uploads/world-ranking-2007.pdf . Subaru are owned by Fuji, who are 22nd (585,000 vehicles per year); Isuzu are 24th (532,000).

	Only missed the bottom 3, surprised that Daihatsu are bigger than say skoda or volvo (or are they considered part of vw/ford these days? Gets very confusing with the takeovers/mergers etc)

	@snoozyj: You seem to have misread what I wrote. The Daimler Motor Company became part of Jaguar which is, in turn, owned by Tata which is the 21st largest (so just misses this quiz). However, the Daimler Motor Company, which is British, has absolutely nothing to do with the German company Daimler AG (formerly Daimler-Chrysler, formerly Daimler Benz), which is number 13 in this quiz. They just happen to have the same name.

	@tbh444: Yes, Skoda is owned by the VW group. Volvo's car business is owned by Ford, who are licensed to use the Volvo name. Volvo's commercial vehicles business made about 236,000 vans, trucks and busses in 2007, which puts it in 31st place. (32nd row of the source table, since row 28 is `Others'. I assume that each of those is smaller than the 49 listed individually.)

	@W.L.S.: Butbutbut #1 is the biggest (well, second-biggest, now) car company in the world! #19 is Russian and makes Ladas, among other things; #20 is Chinese and doesn't export to the west, to the best of my knowledge.
