For helping me get "Sunday Afternoon", I'd like to thank the timeless classic "Ferris Bueller's Day Off".

You're just teasing me aren't you. With the David. LOL. At least this time you didn't blatantly censor anything (although you could've made up for your last sins by showing the bottom half this time hehehe).

Perhaps The Thinker should also accept "Penseur"?

I knew going to art school would finally pay off! I'm not sure what the exchange rate with real currency is, but in sporcle points I'm sure I could buy myself lunch!

I immediately recognized the Seurat, and I've seen Ferris Bueller many a time, but none of that helped me remember the damn title. (I knew it was a Sunday...)

@PopdCulture: Yeah, well if you're getting lunch, don't go to that place in Nighthawks. The food arrives so late, you could be dead!

I recognized so many of these, yet had no idea what the names were. Perhaps I should appreciate fine art more.

@rockgolf I'll make sure to avoid that place then. Apparently 'Nighthawks' was the inspiration behind the production design for Blade Runner.

I have seen every single one of these works at one point, but, couldn't remember their names. Some of them are in the art museum near me too >.

I'm amused by the fact that the most "obvious" answer is also the least-known one.

My summer job consisted of this! Teaching kids about art and then making crafts related to the lecture. I brought up a lot of these artists and art forms. It was great! What I did leave out though was the prostitution, the politics and the game Pin the ear on Van Gogh.

I've always heard it called "La Pieta"... I know it just means "the" but I was super frustrated when I typed that in and it didn't work.

i knew so many of the artists, but couldn't remember the names of the works. there's just too many words in that seurat - all i could remember was "afternoon on la grande jatte."

Also, I'd suggest allowing some alternate answers for the Monet one, as he had several similar-looking paintings with similar names, including "Bridge Over a Pond of Water Lilies", two different "Waterlily Ponds", and a whopping EIGHT "Water Lilies". (I put in "Waterlily Pond", myself).

Really cool quiz - only got 10/20 though. I don't know why it was necessary to include da Vinci and Michelangelo twice though.

I did decently (13/20) but still feel frustrated over the ones where I KNEW the painting but just couldn't think of the name (the Klimt and the Magritte). The Picasso I recognized as a Picasso by the style, but I'd never seen it before so it didn't bother me not to be able to come up with the title. Fun little quiz.

Entering "the thinking man" for "the thinker (literal translation of the Turkish name for that work), "Lilies" for "Water lilies", "Venus", "Venus of Milo" and "Milo's Venus" for the "Venus de Milo" all the time. And about the picture that was shown on the movie "Bean", I was like "That was somebody's mom...but whose?"

@wolv82: Considering that the Seurat is one of the most famous works hanging in the Art Institute of Chicago, I wonder if the song is at all inspired by the painting.

for the Sunday afternoon i literally drew out the painting on a 3 foot by 4 foot piece of paper and did all the pointillism involved in recreating the art back in a high school art history class and despite that i still couldn't remember the name of the painting.

The Art Institute of Chicago lists the Seurat work as "A Sunday on La Grande Jatte" so I submit that as an alternate answer. The painting is located there so I think they should have a say in the matter. :)

Ouch. I have seen all of them before and new most artists, but guessing the name really got me there, even more so because I'm not familiar with the English titles. You should really accept titles in their original tongue (like "Skrik" for the first one).
