Phillip is spelled with only one "l" in many references and Bibles. It should be acceptable.

I'm surprised that Phillip is the least remembered - more people remember Thaddeus and Bartholomew than Phillip? It's one of my favorite boy's names.

@Jessica - I think a lot of people spell it Philip (with one "l") and don't get credit - like me and several other posters. I thought I had just taken the countries quiz too many times - "Philippines" is spelled with one "l", and I think that gave me a one-track mind.

Nathaniel should be taken as an alternate to Batholomew. Thats the name we learned back in Bible class.

@jason: Matthias, son of Deuteronomy of Gath, you have been found guilty by the elders of the town of uttering the name of our Lord, and so as a BLASPHEMER you are to be stoned to death. Look, I'd had a lovely supper, and all I said to my wife was, "that piece of halibut was good enough for Jehovah"

Half the fun is repeating the quiz, over time, until I not only know the answers, I know their spelling.

Technically they weren't apostles until after Christ's ascension. While he was still on earth, they were his disciples. I don't think that anyone considers Judas Escariot an apostle. Matthias should certainly be a bonus answer, as should Paul.

Paul was an apostle, but not one of "The 12". Judas is definitely an acceptable answer. Matthias should be an acceptable answer. See Luke 6:13 where it says that Jesus called them apostles. This quiz suffers from a lack of acceptable alternative spellings and names. For example, Simon was his given name - Peter the surname. Also numbering them 1-12 as if Peter is always #1 and Andrew #4 etc is weak - put them in alphabetical order. Otherwise a great quiz.

Actually, Jude is NOT Thaddeus. This is one of the many places in which the Gospels can't be relied upon because they contradict each other. I would suggest that one of the Gospels be indicated in the question, and an apostle not named in another Gospel be a bonus.
