| Obviously, Birth of a Nation is horrifically racist, but technically it was amazingly influential, and it belongs on any list. What AFI did when it revised the list - taking off BoaN and putting on Intolerance, which is generally considered to be not as good, seems like mindless PCness.
And I'm Jewish, but I certainly would not object to seeing one of the Riefenstahl documentaries on a list of top documentaries, because they're amazing pieces of art. Unlike Triumph of the Will or Birth of a Nation, Mein Kampf is not a work of art - it's an awful, turgid mess that nobody anywhere has ever thought was at all good. |
