I can't explain why, but I found this a very interesting quiz.

Onno - Probably because it wasn't "name every city we can think of and wait for it to light up." Quite a few on here that you just had to know. Good stuff. Could have used one more minute, but, but that's just me.

I almost missed the city of my birth (St. Louis), and therefore I decree this a fantastic quiz.

Tough quiz. I'm struggling to determine whether or not providing the states in addition to the rank would have been too easy or not. I feel like it wouldn't since I pretzeled my brain running through major cities in each state but I could see how it would make things easier too.

Very cool quiz. I'm happy with my 18, though I'm amazed Hialeah is so heavily populated. Excellently done once again, Booger.

Ft Worth would be a good bonus. I know that the city doesn't refer to itself that way (like St. Louis does), but many others do.

Never would've come up with the bottom 3, but a good quiz nonetheless.

@karinaedge: I assume the alternate is "New York City" which would make it eleven letters. Great quiz idea - but this makes me hungry for a seven-letter countries quiz now.

Good idea for a quiz. Why the cut-off after 23? The last three are so obscure (he said, brushing aside nearly 650,000 people in a few easy words) that stopping after twenty would have made sense.

@davidr - it's any city within the top 100 overall. There just happen to be 23 of them with 7 letters.

@Haunter: Being a state capital is no high population guarantee. Check out Montpelier, VT, or Helena, MT.

Fort Worth is normally spelled Fort Worth...that's nine letters, and it's population is about 687,000, give or take a few. I live in Texas, and I never see it as Ft. Worth...it's always spelled out. Booger - great quiz! It really made me think! Loved it.

You know, if San Juan is a bonus, so should Bayamón, PR- its 2000 census population was around 224K... just sayin'.

Wow, was someone just sitting around the Sporcle office (one can only wonder what constitutes for the Sporcle headquarters) and was just like 'ever notice how many cities have like 7 letters'. Atleast that's the image my mind's conjuring up that and the addition of Keanu Reeves voice lodged somewhere within. Fascinating quiz...

springmom, I live in Texas and I've seen it both ways ... it's definitely spelled out more often than St. Louis is, but it's not uncommon to see signs for "Ft. Worth." See, e.g, http://www.interstate-guide.com/images030/i-030_wt_01.jpg, http://www.interstate-guide.com/images020/i-020_wt_09.jpg,

Pat on the back to Booger for thinking really out of the box. Would I have thought of this? No, never. Maybe Ft. Worth should be on here with an asterisk, just like New York (City) and St. (Saint) Louis.

The Title is "7-Letter Cities (U.S.)" So does that mean there is going to be a "7-Letter Cities (World)"
