| That's because the US refuses to recognize the ruling junta. While that's certainly a reasonable position, the US pretending the name hasn't changed is as silly as Greece refusing to refer to Macedonia as Macedonia, because it believes itself to have the right to that name. Check that, it's not quite as silly, because if I'm not mistaken the name snafu has kept Macedonia out of the EU, but this isn't a translational thing, like the English word for Italia being Italy. US government recognition, or lack their of, doesn't alter the title of the country. Regardless, it now exists as an bonus answer. |
