With Michael Jordan, Scottie Pippen, Kobe Bryant, and Shaq, I could be the 4th greatest coach of all time too.

Fun quiz- I didn't do as well as I should have (I even missed someone from my town, for god's sake), but I still enjoyed it. If anything, I might add one more minute to the clock, but that's a small complaint.

If there's one thing Sporcle has taught me over the last 2 days, it's how to spell Krzyzewski.

TSN should fire the guy who made this list. Where's Pat Summit, the greatest college basketball coach of all time? Also, what about Lenny Wilkens? He's the winningest coach in NBA history

One quibble - I don't think Herb Brooks made the list for his NHL coaching career. He's much better known for coaching the 1980 US Olympic hockey team. I would probably just change #50 to "Hockey".

@jjs91, Summit is at #11, even though #42 kicks her butt every time they meet, so much that #11 is a scared little girl that never wants to play #42 again.

Billy Martin couldn't last more than 2 years anywhere without alienating the players and upper management. A talented manager who got immediate results everywhere he went, but he can't be on a list of the 50 greatest ever.

Not exactly the most diverse list. Sir Alex Ferguson would easily be on this list if it was covering the greatest coaches in the world, but even if we're going to limit it to the United States, where's Dan Gable?

Bryant, we look forward to your identifying the coaches on this list who did NOT have great talent to work with. I don't like the guy, but anyone who still doesn't think Jackson is a great coach is wilfully ignorant.

jjs91....um summitts there, you just cant spell...lenny wilkens is the winningest coach in nba history thanks to idiot GMs who hired him and made his career last a long time (35 years)...look at his record....53% wins...not exactly the guy who leads teams to many championships

This should specify that it's US sports. Otherwise there are plenty of football (soccer, if you prefer), rugby, cricket etc coaches who would surely make the list.

@johnhenry....really...a swimming coach?? if u can name me any other kids he's coached to greatness, such as phelps, maybe, but since thats the only guy he's brought to that level...certainly doesnt deserve any accolades until he's gets reproducible champs like potsmokin' mike....

Agree with JohnJF, Gable should be on there with 15 NCAA titles, and a career record of 355-21-5

I know its stupid to argue stuff like this, but it's annoying how Bill Walsh continues to get shafted by history. He practically invented the modern NFL people drool over today, and won three Super Bowls. He should be ahead of Belichick, Gibbs, Landry, maybe even Halas.

Mark Schubert: 3 NCAA Championships and 49 NCAA individual titles. A USA swim coach in 1980, 84, 88, 92, 96, 00, 04. Over 15 Olympians with multiple world record holders, including Janet Evans, whose record was the longest held world record in swimming until it was broken in 08, Erik Vendt, Kaitlen Sandeno, as well as countless other greats.

While I'm happy to see Scott Bowman get the recognition of 7th place, the fact that he's not in the top 3 is a borderline tragedy. 28 seasons - never missed the playoffs. Stanley Cups with three different teams. (Plus, he took his other team to the cup finals in their expansion season.) Very American-centric quiz.

@johnhenry ... never said that guy, of course i dont follow swimming, way to bait and switch pal, easy to bait someone with wrong names "mark schuman" and come out like that with the stats, which i admit are impossible to beat...other than the fact that most people really dont care too much about swimming championships, same goes for wrestling, but all sports should be fairly viewed i suppose...

How is Jim Calhoun not on this list? His resume includes 2 NCAA championships, 805 career wins, a Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame induction, and 25 players drafted to the NBA. And yes, I went to UConn.

I'm a Pats fan and I agree with Alex. I'm ok with Bill Belichick in the top 25, but I can't figure out why Walsh isn't there either. I also agree that Jim Calhoun should be on the list. He made the UConn program what it is today, and most people think UConn will sink towards the bottom half of the Big East when he leaves. That's what happened to Northeastern after he left, except that NU wasn't in the Big East.

I'm not a Redskins fan, but I'm really glad they put Joe Gibbs on here, he doesn't get enough credit as one of the all-time great football coaches. Considering that in the three Super Bowls the Redskins won they had a different quarterback (as well as different players at other positions), it seems to be proof to me that Gibbs' system, combined with skilled drafting of players to fit those and key free agent pick-ups (Joe Washington, Jim Lachey, Earnest Byner, Doug Williams, etc.) was responsible for the winning, particularly the offensive line play. Sound like any coach the NFL media gushes about continually?

@Ireland. For the proportion of users on this site (based on comments) the balance of sports quizzes is probably about right. I get annoyed when Americans come into soccer/football threads and post stupid comments; so you're hardly helping the site by doing the opposite.

why is herb brooks listed as an NHL coach? he is much more well known as an amateur coach and a NCAA coach. he won 3 national championships at minnesota, plus a gold and a silver in the olympics. he never made it past the 2nd round in the nhl playoffs.
