| @dspiel80: I'm sorry to have to say to you but Brooks Robinson was better than Ron Santo. All-star appearances and Gold Gloves are nice, but what really matters in determining a guy's Hall worthiness is MVP and Cy Young balloting. Santo finished in the MVP balloting 7 times (4, 5, 8 twice, 12, 18, and 24). Robinson finished in the MVP balloting 12 times (1, 2, 3 twice, 4, 7, 9, 12, 17, 19, 23, and 26). And, as you can see, Robinson had five top 5 finishes, including one win, while Santo only had one top 5 finish and no wins. Ron Santo was a very good player, but he's not Hall material, and he wasn't better than Robinson. Plus, Robinson had 15 all-star appearances and 16 Gold Gloves. So even by those criteria, he is more deserving of the Hall. And Santo played his career in Wrigley Field while Robinson played in Memorial Stadium; Santo clearly had the advantage of playing in a more hitter friendly park. |
