	Just to show what a monumental bust Ryan Leaf was: almost as many people remember that he was a first round pick as remember that Dan Marino was a first rounder. It's very likely that Leaf will slide down the memory scale over the years. But it's been over a decade since the guy was picked, and he flamed out of the league within three years. He certainly left an impression on people.

	QB's are getting more and more expensive, and when you look at this list, at least 25 (I don't know my 1980's that well) and almost half of them are disappointments without a doubt. No formula to follow, I can only say that I'm glad that my Bears decided to forgo adding another miserable legacy to this list and find somebody who was successful at finding a passer in the first round

	Ryan Leaf has to be the biggest bust in NFL Draft history. He does have some great clips though.

	51/56... I really don't think we'll be forgetting Leaf that easily, in the same way that we haven't forgotten some other monumental busts like Brian Bosworth and Tony Mandarich.

	Here is a crazy stat for ya: Only 3 of these guys have gone on to win the superbowl with the team that drafted them! Peyton Manning, Troy Aikman, and Ben Roethlisberger. 3/56. Those aren't good odds. (Technically it is 4. Bledsoe won with the Pats but he wasn't the starter so I don't count him.)

	@ camden, that might just be a factor of how hard it is to win a superbowl. As far is it being a question of odds, where are the odds good on a QB being found to win a superbowl? 59 players on this list, 26 superbowls. Elway, Aikman, Roethlisberger win 2 each, suddenly 53 players, 56 players, 20 superbowls. starting Super bowl losers on this list with their original team: McNair, Bledsoe, Grossman, McNabb, Kelly (4 times!), and possibly others. Right there you have 8 of the last 26 superbowls.

	Got 53/59. Druckenmiller and Tommy Maddox were the only two I missed from the 90s on. It's funny to see Jim Everett drafted by the Oilers in '86 and Maddox by the Broncos in '92, when both teams had hall of fame QBs in their prime at the time. Guess those new directions didn't quite go the way they planned.

	Seriously? The Buccaneers actually trade up to draft Josh Freeman when they already have Byron Leftwich and Brian Greise? Bad move. I wish my Ravens got Boldin but Michael Oher is a great pick. He's going to be the anchor of our offensive line for twenty years.

	Am I the only one that would have bet his life that Jake Plummer was a first round pick of the Cardinals? Man he was supposed to be the 2nd coming of Joe Montana...guess I just misremembered..I totally forgot how to spell a lot of these names...and blanked on some others.

	Camden: I know technically the Giants didn't draft Manning, but it was pretty much a foregone conclusion that he was going to go to the Giants even after he was drafted by San Diego. And then he went on to win a Super Bowl with them.

	The Rams are the only team who has not drafted a QB in the 1st round since the merger. (They last drafted a QB in round 1 in 1964) The Saints, the only other team not represented on this quiz due to it only going back to 1983, last drafted a QB in round 1 when they drafted Archie Manning in 1971.

	29 QBs have "won" a Super Bowl. Of those 29, 1 went undrafted (Kurt Warner), 1 was drafted in the 1st round of the supplemental draft (Steve Young), 4 were drafted in the 8th round or higher (Starr, Staubach, Unitas, and Brad Johnson), 2 were drafted in the 6th round (Mark Rypien and Tom Brady), 1 in the 4th round (Joe Theismann), 2 in the 3rd round (Joe Montana and Jeff Hostettler), 2 in the 2nd round (Ken Stabler and Brett Favre), and the other 16 were drafted in the 1st round. So, what round should we be avoiding again?

	@Leo: I count 43 Superbowls and 27 QBs (not 29). 14 of them were drafted in the first round.

	@sub, I miscounted. There's 28, 15 of which were drafted in round 1. I should note that I counted Earl Morrall who played in Super Bowl V along with Johnny Unitas.

	Either way, my basic point still stands. Even if you don't count Morrall and have the 14 of 27 number, that's still 51.85 percent of Super Bowl winning QBs drafted in round 1. 53.57 percent if you do count Morrall. It's silly to say you should avoid the first round for QBs just because there are more non-SB winning QBs drafted in round 1 than there are winners. That fact holds true for every position on the field.

	55/59; missed stouffer, mcgwire, everett, and long. i knew everett was picked in the first round, so i was looking for the rams; didn't know the oilers drafted him. moon was pretty bad until 1987, though, so it's understandable; the guy was turning the ball over at least 25 times a season back then.

	HollywoodLeo, I agree. I mean, haven't there been monumental busts at every position, including "can't-miss-prospects"? Dan Wilkinson and Steve Emtman were prospects at a "safe" position like DT, and both ended up doing nothing in the league despite both being picked #1 overall. The fact of the matter is, you can miss at any position in the first round, and higher draft choices (1st and 2nd round) on average DO end up being better than later round choices; the same logic you used for Super Bowl winners can be applied to Pro Bowl rosters.

	That's easier said than done. The real point is, you need to pick good players all over the field. Contrary to popular belief, QBs do not win football games on their own. There's nothing I loathe more than ring counting. Is Trent Dilfer a better QB than Dan Marino? I think not. I only mentioned who "won" Super Bowls because that was the premise put forth in the flawed argument. "Won" was in quotes in my initial post for a reason.
