I almost missed "9 Ladies Dancing." I can never remember that and "6 Geese a Laying" for some reasons. Got all 12 though.

The original song had "colly" birds because they were popular when the song was written. It was printed incorrectly as "calling" years later by a someone who misinterpreted the song that had been passed down for so many years.

Five gold rings should be accepted. As this is how it is always pronounced, here in England anyway and thus should be accepted.

Nevermind about that last comment. There seem to be two versions out there, and this one is more popular. However, I have a 12 Days of Christmas book with days 9-12 being drummers, pipers, ladies, and lords, respectively. Wikipedia lists them this way as well. Anyone got an explanation?

I think its funny how people miss the ones at the end the most... maybe thats because theyre hard to keep straight... but probably more because people get so sick of the song after the first 6 that they stop listening... anyhoo... just a thought...

Oh... and my theory as to why there are different versions... back in the day before printed music, people wrote down lyrics as they remembered them... so it stands to reason that people messed up.. a lot. People also changed lyrics to suit their environment and make it more meaningful to themselves. Another cool music fact is that back in those days, people often forgot the lyrics and just threw in what they wanted, like maybe random sounds, such as "tis the season to be jolly fa la la la la la la la la...." What?

@bcork: Could I have a citation for that last fact? It sounds rather dubious.

How about a skip button, for when you're stuck on one??

The first ones are easier to get because you repeat them SO MANY TIMES throughout the song. The last one was the toughest, because you only sing that one once.

There are hidden answers here but I can't get them. If you right click on the page and go to view page source (or view source in IE) it will bring up the page source. Towards the bottom there is an area where it lists the answer boxes for the quiz (It doesn't list the actual answers). Any hidden answers are always listed below this area (again the actual bonus answers aren't listed [at least not usually] only the lines of code that show you they are there). In this case there is a whole bunch. They are Bob and Doug McKenzie's gifts... "style='display:none;'>Bob and Doug McKenzie's Gift". Bob & Doug, for those that don't know, are characters portrayed on SCTV in the 80s by Dave Thomas and Rick Moranis. At any rate I can't figure out how to unlock them. I think the problem is that you have to be in the box for the respective gifts for the regular answers making the bonus's inaccessible since the boxes aren't visible to highlight. At any rate if anyone can figure it out throw a comment up.

@adal If you click on, say, 9th day when you're stuck on 6th day, you can answer 9th day. I got them all with 3:08 to go. I got hung up for almost a minute on ladies dancing.

Can't believe I just completed this quiz in October!! Anyway - I learnt it as 9 drummers, 10 pipers, 11 lords and 12 ladies ... but I know that there are so many variations with these last 4 so I just tried them until I got the right one! Good quiz :o)
