Chosun Central Television (North Korea)
North Korean researchers purportedly created a global happiness index of all of the world's countries. The scores of only seven countries, however, were released. And no, this isn't a joke (I think).

I wonder if the North Korean "researchers" are even alive today considering they put North Korea second?

Funny/sad is dead right. I was wondering what Venezuela ever did for Kim Jong-Il, when I remembered that president Hugo Chavez isn't exactly the biggest fan of the USA. I can just imagine the two of them swapping puerile jokes over the latest US scandels, while congratulating each other on their utopias.

North Korea recognizes 203 countries? Interesting.

It's curious that the happiest countries (according to North Korea) are also among the most corrupt according to Transparency International (e.g. Iran ranks 146th and Venezuela 164th out of 178 countries; unfortunately there are no corruption data available for North Korea). Does this imply that it's impossible to be honest and happy at the same time?

dancastro: there's no point to applying any kind of logic to anything that comes out of North Korea.

@MisterF. It doesn't recognize 203 countries. South Korea is not recognized by the North but included and not approaching last place. How magnanimous. There are 8 others apparently not on the UN list that are included in the study. Wonder what they are

I can't help it: Every time I hear (anything) about N Korea, I fall into nervous laugther... I'm still waiting for this really big comedy show to come up with the confession that North Korea has been their idea to amuse people...

Oh, and it should probably accept USA. It's kind of annoying when you type it in, it doesn't accept it, but then it does when you hit backspace. Not that it really matters.

Accept US (and USA), but display the answer as "American Empire" because that's what they used lol

Can we just stop fighting with each other in the Middle East, gather the other 194 countries together, and bomb the bleep out of this place?

To chime in on the USA or US debate...I've always been a fan of just accepting USA because I've never seen the argument "can you accept US while it accepts USA"...Typing US leaves doubt if it is an answer on the quiz so most people that type US will add the "A" just to be sure...so I think it should be USA...but it is up to the quiz maker when contributed to the site.
A good compromise though to make everyone happy and kill the debate altogether would be the following:
United States/USA/US
Lastly, Sporcle precedent has been and currently is the following as seen on "Countries of the World" quiz:
United States/USA

Great quiz! But you seem to have accidentally put this in the Geography section instead of Just For Fun. ;) Well of course North Koreans are happy, isn't everything perfect in their country? And they're so modest too, in not placing themselves first.

eaglesmania: you're welcome! I heard about this "Global Happiness Rating" on NPR when I was driving in to work yesterday morning. I rushed to my office and made the quiz. It was too good (or bad) not to make a quiz out of this "data."

And before anyone asks, as noted above, the source material refers to the US as "the American Empire". So, I've changed the display answer to that, but of course still accept us, usa, etc.
