May I ask what the low rating was for?

Good quiz. What's not to like? A quiz that's on an interesting topic (and I find most things interesting), that's well implemented from a decent source, contains no uncorrected mistakes, gets no worse than four globes from me. A quiz that meets all those requirements, and I learn something from it I didn't know before gets five globes. This one got five globes. Don't fret unnecessarily about a low rating. Here's the way I look at it. Let's say you do a quiz on the pyramids at Giza. Two people take the quiz. The first is the world's foremost authority on Egyptology, the second person thinks the pyramids were built by spacemen. Their ratings carry exactly the same weight. If you're going to leave a low rating, 1 or 2 globes, it seems to me you should leave an explanation, or at minimum bump up an existing comment that states your reason for doing so. But let's face it, some people give low ratings out of spite, some do so in an effort to make the ratings for their own quizzes look better by comparison, and some leave poor ratings because they aren't happy and don't like themselves very much. Better they leave low ratings here than kick their dog, right?

You didn't do anything to make anyone mad. Some people just like to be jerks while hiding behind the privacy of a computer screen. This was an awesome quiz!

Thanks to everyone. The first rating someone gave the quiz was a 3. I'm glad everyone has enjoyed it since then.

I'd rather they kick their dog than leave a low rating on my quizzes. Does that make me a bad person?

Interesting stuff. Just out of curiosity, what's the general order-of-magnitude difference between these and oil-producing countries in the Middle East?

What's wrong with a rating of 3? That's a middle of the road grade. While this was an interesting quiz, it wasn't anything spectacular or anything that required you to do a lot of research or imagination. All you had to do was copy a list off some website.

Leaving politics and technological issues aside - it would be interesting to contrast this list with a similar one of POTENTIAL oil production (factoring in rules against drilling and emerging sources like oil shale).

I'm sure I'll be marked down for this, but I thought I did rather respectably (is that a word) for singing the "fifty nifty" song in my head and typing most of the states (leaving out some I thought were obviously wrong). The only one I didn't get was Wyoming.

singin185: I gave the quiz 2 minutes because I knew that some people would simply guess every state. I couldn't do 1 minute because there are alot of slow typers.

People shouldn't have to apologize for a 3 rating. There's been a lot of rating inflation over the past year. I save a 5 for truly original ideas that get my brain juices flowing. 4 is for quizzes I like. This one I thought listed too many marginal states instead of just the top producers. How many people really knew that, say, Utah or Illinois had sizable oil production vs. how many got those right just from guessing? I think this would be better if you just stuck to a top 10 or even a top 8.
